Re: php5 port compile problem

2004-11-01 Thread Xander Damen
Well, yeah that's what I did and it did solve my problem. Not the best way
to solve it, but if you really want php5 you can do it like that :)

I believe 5-stable solved this problem because it switched to bind9, but
4-stable still misses those functions (because of bind8?).

Hi Xander,
Thanks for the info, but do you mean the bind9 port? I'm not excited about
installing a port for bind when it is in the base distro already, but...
joel
I know this problem! I encountered it a few months ago when php5 was this
beta.
What I found was that you need bind9 for php5, so install bind9 and your
problem is solved.

Re: Future support for PERC 4e/XX cards

Did you try them and they did not work, or are you looking to see if
they will work before you buy them? I suspect they'll work since Dell
uses mostly AMI cards which work with the amr RAID driver, or the
Adaptec cards which work with the aac driver. If you ask your dell
server specialist, they can tell you what chipset is uses and that will
be a better indication of whether it will work.

Problems After Upgrading from 4.9-RELEASE-p4 To 4.10-RELEASE-p3

2004-11-01 Thread Drew Tomlinson
I've been happily using 4.9-RELEASE-p4 since April 2004. Over the
weekend, I decided to upgrade to 4.10-RELEASE-p3 to fix the pthreads
problem since I had just added an external tape drive to the QLogic SCSI
card that was already in my system.

Anyway, after upgrading, I experienced the same symptoms as described in
this message:

http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2003-December/016933.html
In reading the thread, it seems there was an infinite loop problem in
the ahc driver code that was fixed later by Justin Gibbs. So I tried
upgrading to 4-STABLE to see if the problem was fixed there. But I
still have the same symptoms.

I also see these odd processes in my ps output:

I find them odd because the system was powered off/on at 6:19AM after
the machine was shutdown at about 10:08PM. (I tried waiting overnight
to see if it would actually finish it's shutdown.)

And finally, I have one vinum volume that has problems. However after
the system comes up, I can remove and re-create the volume and all of my
data is intact.

I'm assuming that if I get the shutdown issue resolved, these other
problems will heal themselves. I'd appreciate any advice you might have
on how to get my system running on 4.10. My dmesg output follows.
Please let me know if there's any other info I can provide.

Thanks,
Drew

Probably a local error. Try changing scripts to #!/bin/sh -x and
carefully watch (or log) the boot process. Start with any local

Actually I have found this happening on my 4.10 boxen as well. I thought
it was some one-time glitch and just chmodded the thing back. Didn't
even think about it until I saw this post. I will try to see if I can
catch the circumstances surrounding it if it happens again.

exim-sa Build procedure issues.

2004-11-01 Thread Andy Davidson
Hi,

I recently installed Exim 4 with SpamAssassin at smtp-time suport from
FreeBSD ports. (Most recent collection downloaded from the freebsd.org
site.)

The port is exim-sa-exim in the mail collection.

There were some problems with the build procedure that could be
automated :

1.
The sa-exim-4.1 files are downloaded properly, but the exim source is
not patched by the localscan_dlopen_exim_4.20_or_better.patch file.

2.
localscan_dlopen_exim_4.20_or_better.patch needs to actually be
edited itself to work on FreeBSD - the line reading :
+LFLAGS=-rdynamic -ldl
should actually read :
+LFLAGS=-rdynamic

Once exim is then built, getting it to work with spamassassin is quite
simple.
