Maybe the wrong list, but, this was from STABLE -> STABLE. I have an old 32-bit machine that had 8.2-STABLE on it. I tried to upgrade using 8.2 update # freebsd.update upgrade -r 9.0 failed with the no more mirrors message # env UNAME_r=8.2-RELEASE freebsd.update upgrade -r 9.0 failed with the no more mirrors message I tried # sed -i '' -e 's/=_/=%@_/' /usr/sbin/freebsd-update # env UNAME_r=8.2-RELEASE freebsd.update upgrade -r 9.0 similar failure I copied freebsd.update from my 9.0 amd64 system. # env UNAME_r=8.2-RELEASE ./freebsd.update upgrade -r 9.0 Worked! After following directions until update completed and updating ports with portupgrade -a -PP, the 32-bit machine was running 9.0 with no known problems. Compiler Problems?
I believe we have a compiler problem with gcc42. I had a problem with scilab under both -stable and -current. I installed the ports with the default make files. scilab failed at run time. ports/116378. Math/scilab uses math/lapack and math/blas and builds everything with gcc42 and gfortran42. I distrust things which do not use the default system build tools. All three ports were up-to-date as of yesterday. I deinstalled scilab, blas, and, lapack. I rebuilt them with the default system compilers, g77 and cc. The problem went away. scilab uses two gfortran specific calls. Fixing these, changing the makefiles fixed the problem. Scilab. I have an unresolved issue with XFree86-4.2.0, -stable, and an ASUS A7N266-E motherboard with integrated GeForce2 VGA, the nForce chipset. Sysinstall from the 4.5 subscription CD worked fine. But, attempting to start X freezes the system. The screen flickers one time. There is no response to the keyboard. It does not break into DDB. There is no response to the serial keyboard. # uname -a FreeBSD asus 4.5-STABLE FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE #0: Sun Apr 21 11:05:40 PDT 2002 \ root@asus:/usr/src/sys/compile/ASUS i386 With patches from Matthew Dodd ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), the system broke into DDB. I provided the output from the serial console to him, including the output from DDB and the crash dump, 21 Apr 2002 21:43:36 -0700 (PDT). So far, no resolution. I still have a copy of the email. To get the system operating, I installed an ATI Radeon 7000.
