Either that or use dvd+rw-tools (see /usr/ports/sysutils/dvd+rw-tools).

Not sure if you solved your problem yet.. the reason cdrecord doesn't
see your burner is that it's on the third scsi bus...

why don't you try:
cdrecord dev=2,0,0 -checkdrive

Though you'll probably want to d/l the ProDVD version of cdrecord to
be able to burn DVD's..

The subject said it: I've got a brand new ATAPI DVD-RW. In my kernel,
there is ATAPICAM. I can see it with camcontrol, but, cannot see it in
cdrecord -scanbus.

I can write to it with growisofs as /dev/cd1, but cannot write it with
cdrecord/cdrdao, and cannot reach is with cdparanoia, etc.

Can somebody help me to find the reason of this special error?

PS: cvsup of RELENG-5 from yesterday (cdrecord recompiled). By the
way, I could burn CD with cdrecord on it in the last 3 weeks, with
some older RELENG-5 (and with an older firmware).

It works fine in my box (FreeBSD 5.3-p2, cdrecord 2.00.3). Note that my
drive has only firmware TS03; try to downgrade to an older version (I
know it seems to be ridiculous, however, sometimes new firmwares may
more buggy than older ones).

Yes. Sorry for the missing information, but: /dev/acd0, /dev/cd0 and
/dev/cd1, /dev/xpt0 and /dev/pass[0-3] are all exists, and they have (I
think) the correct permissions, generated with devfs.conf) :

$ ll /dev/cd* /dev/pass* /dev/xpt*
crw-r-  1 zgabor  zgabor-   4,  25 Dec 18 08:15 /dev/cd0
crw-r-  1 zgabor  zgabor-   4,  26 Dec 18 08:15 /dev/cd1
lrwxr-xr-x  1 rootwheel -3 Dec 18 08:15 /dev/cdrom@ -> cd0
crw---  1 zgabor  zgabor- 234,   0 Dec 18 08:15 /dev/pass0
crw---  1 rootoperator  - 234,   1 Dec 18 08:15 /dev/pass1
crw---  1 rootoperator  - 234,   2 Dec 18 08:15 /dev/pass2
crw---  1 zgabor  zgabor- 234,   3 Dec 18 08:15 /dev/pass3
crw-rw  1 rootoperator  - 233,   0 Dec 18 08:15 /dev/xpt0
$
(And yes, I'm in the group of operator)
So the problem exists: how can it be, that "camcontrol devlist" shows an
ATAPICAM-generated "SCSI"-DVD-RW, but cdrecord couldn't see it with
"cdrecord -scanbus":

$ camcontrol devlist
 at scbus0 target 4 lun 0 (cd0,pass0)
at scbus0 target 13 lun 0 (da0,pass1)
at scbus0 target 15 lun 0 (da1,pass2)
