Yes, somehow the kernel goes off in the weeds while doing the PNPBIOS
scan.  Don't disable ACPI.

I've got fatal trap on Dell D620 laptop when I tried to boot with ACPI 
disabled.

Kernel compiled with APIC and SMP options.
