[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16880] Context menu: Take AI player fails

2010-10-17 Thread HanduMan

URL:
  http://gna.org/bugs/?16880

Summary: Context menu: Take AI player fails
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: handuman
Submitted on: Sunday 10/17/10 at 07:58
Category: client-gtk-2.0
Severity: 3 - Normal
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: None
 Assigned to: None
Originator Email:
 Open/Closed: Open
 Release: 2.2.3
 Discussion Lock: Any
Operating System: None
 Planned Release:

___

Details:

The _Take this player_ command in pregame player list fails when trying to
/take an AI player when only AI players are being allowed to /take.

To reproduce:
0 start a new game with default settings from the client
0 /set allowtake = Aa
0 activate the context menu on one of the AI players in the list
0 choose Take this player
* the client first toggles the AI state and then complains that human players
cannot be taken. That player remains as unassigned human player.

To fix:
Make the menu option first execute the /take command and if successful then
toggle the AI status.

You sent the same message two days, and i replied to that. Did you get
my message, and did you try changing the version of your video driver?

Yes, I got your first message. There seems to be a bit of a delay with
this list or perhaps it is moderation. Haven't tried changing my video
driver not sure how to do that with debian.

I have also removed the ^M's in the teutonic ruleset, which makes it hard to
find the corrections. The fix is Franconia for Franconian, and the
removal of the space after Baden-.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1959] Make 'topology', 'killcitizen' 'airliftstyle' bitwise options

2010-10-17 Thread Jacob Nevins

Follow-up Comment #2, patch #1959 (project freeciv):

Just tried this out with patch #1956. Looks good, but a couple of issues I
noticed with airliftingstyle specifically:
* In airliftingstyle_name, the same text Allows units to be airlifted to
allied cities appears twice. I think the second should be Unlimited units
from source city.
* For that setting, some documentation has been lost; UNLIMITED_SRC used to
say Airlifting from a city doesn't reduce the airlifted counter, but still
needs at least 1 and UNLIMITED_DEST used to say Airlifting to a city
doesn't reduce the airlifted counter, and doesn't need any. (Also echoed in
fc_types.h.) This is important information, I think; as far as I can, it
basically means that with UNLIMITED_DEST you can airlift to cities without
Airports or equivalent, but even with UNLIMITED_SRC you need an Airport in
the source city.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16882] Separate gold transfers from diplcost

Details:

Although for me personally this is a bug, I report it as a wish, since it
currently works as it is planned to.

The server setting _diplcost_ defines a percentage penalty for receiving
technology and gold from a diplomatic treaty. I think there should be
separate settings for each. If diplcost is set to 100 to make trading techs
less profitable, it invalidates all gold payments. Including those that have
nothing to do with technology transfers. For example, buying cities or paying
for damages (these are reality in LT games).

Furthermore, I'd like to see these settings adjustable by related effects so
that they could be subjected to change during a game.

This is the error in syslog:
 Oct 15 10:36:48 Palatinus gdm[3173]: WARNING:
 gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0

Is this a new install, or one that has recently been updated? This
specific error has in the past been solved by rolling back to a
previous version video driver or updating the video driver. In any
case, it is likely that the error will randomly pop up from time to
time until resolved - i.e. you will probably see this same error even
if you never start FreeCiv. You may also want to file a bug report
 with Debian.

It started happening when I switched to a 21.5 monitor and added an
extra 3 GB of physical memory.

I'd bet you dollars to doughnuts that the blame for the crashes can be
laid on the video driver having difficulties using the settings for the old
monitor on the new monitor. I've not tried Debian yet [i actually have a disc
i mean to give a whirl, but haven't found time to do so], however, there's
probably enough similarity to Ubuntu to make this work. I'll list them in
order of pain involved.

1) You probably have a GUI tool to configure the driver. For instance, the
proprietary Nvidia driver includes NVidia X Server Settings, which is
attached to my System - Administration menu. Gnome also provides a tool for
the open source drivers, on my system it is in the System menu - Preferences
- Monitors.

2) [from a terminal] sudo dpkg-reconfigure package name, where package
name is something like xserver-xorg or perhaps the name of the package that
provides your video driver. The difficulty is knowing exactly which package it
is that needs to be configured, apt/aptitude might be able to help out here.

3) Another method would be to totally log out of X and use a single user shell
or console. I'm not sure how this is accomplished in Debian, but it may
involve selecting an option from the grub/lilo/yaboot menu. Once there, type
the following commands:

cd /etc/X11/
Xorg -configure

When that is finished test your settings by typing:

startx

*) In days of yore we might have deleted the configurations file, but i
understand that changes in the way X.Org 1.4 stores settings make that less
useful in many cases.

One of them beats me, though: Quincy.

Am I missing something? Can someone add a translator note, or just remove it?

Details:

If I inspect a city with a diplomat or spy, and then conquer it (on the same
turn or a later turn), then:

 * it still shows in the main display as if it belongs to the old owner
 * go to thinks that units can't pass through it, and that it exerts a zone
of control
 * I can move units through it using the keypad
 * I can't get to the city dialog for it
 * clicking on it selects the (one) present unit, brings up the pick-a-unit
list, or does nothing, depending on the number of present units
 * it doesn't show up in the city list (F4 key)

This is entirely repeatable, both in the course of a normal (single-player)
game and on turn 1 after setup with the editor. This has existed for quite a
while, but I only just now connected it to the inspection.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16667] en_GB strings in Freeciv source code

2010-10-17 Thread Jacob Nevins

Follow-up Comment #5, bug #16667 (project freeciv):

I think rulesets can be modified also in trunk, there shouldn't
break anything (I did a quick grep on harbour, I didn't find
 any reference to the building).

Unfortunately the string Harbour does appear in savegames -- the string is
put in a struct name_translation and the untranslated version
(vernacular) is used as a machine-readable persistent tag. So it's
difficult to rename any ruleset item like that. (A problem I'm also
encountering with specialists for patch #2050.)

previous version video driver or updating the video driver. In any
case, it is likely that the error will randomly pop up from time to
time until resolved - i.e. you will probably see this same error even
if you never start FreeCiv. You may also want to file a bug report
  with Debian.

It started happening when I switched to a 21.5 monitor and added an
extra 3 GB of physical memory.

I'd bet you dollars to doughnuts that the blame for the crashes can be
laid on the video driver having difficulties using the settings for
the old monitor on the new monitor. I've not tried Debian yet [i
actually have a disc i mean to give a whirl, but haven't found time to
do so], however, there's probably enough similarity to Ubuntu to make
this work. I'll list them in order of pain involved.

Yes I have found debian to be very similar to ubuntu. There are minor
differences but he underlying architecture is the same.

 1) You probably have a GUI tool to configure the driver. For
instance, the proprietary Nvidia driver includes NVidia X Server
Settings, which is attached to my System - Administration menu.
Gnome also provides a tool for the open source drivers, on my system
it is in the System menu - Preferences - Monitors.

I have no video card. I'm using on-board video which is intel based.
lspci gives:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

I have no GUI tool to configure the monitor other than the one that sets
the resolution.

Just to clarify this this the current configuration of my system:

gnu/linux/debian lenny
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.3.2-2+lenny8
xserver-xorg 1:7.3+20
xserver-xorg-core2:1.4.2-10.lenny2
linux-image-2.6-686 2.6.26+17+lenny1

 2) [from a terminal] sudo dpkg-reconfigure package name, where
package name is something like xserver-xorg or perhaps the name of
the package that provides your video driver. The difficulty is
knowing exactly which package it is that needs to be configured,
apt/aptitude might be able to help out here.

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
This command just presented me with several screens to do with
configuring my keyboard layout. So no help here.

I just found a way to reliably cause this error to happen: By dragging
around a window.

 3) Another method would be to totally log out of X and use a single
user shell or console. I'm not sure how this is accomplished in
Debian, but it may involve selecting an option from the
grub/lilo/yaboot menu. Once there, type the following commands:

 cd /etc/X11/
 Xorg -configure

When that is finished test your settings by typing:

 startx

I tried this. The crash still happens.

I have been reading various threads on the subject. Such as:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17713

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23082

But no clear fix is presented but it has been marked as resolved.

I'm a bit wary of using a nonstandard kernel under debian.

Thanks
