Previously all of the data was scrapped (not *really*, but anyway size of the buffer content was marked 0), breaking the stream when there's multiple packets in queue. It seems that this has not been an big issue with freeciv-web with proxy feeding the server relatively slowly, but trying to get regular server and client to communicate with json-protocol on the same machine never goes longer than just an packet or two without this fix. Only negative values added to 0 could never change the state of the boolean. It would stay 'disabled' like it is initially. I went through entire effects type list for TRUNK. For later branches I removed the effect types that are completely new since the branch in question. I also remembered that EFT_REVOLUTION_WHEN_UNHAPPY has turned from boolean to integer only after S2_5 (not that negative values would make sense for it as integer either). There might be other similar former boolean effects that I have missed to add to the list of older branches. All that means is that those won't get sanity checked. ___ File Attachments: --- Date: Sun 08 Mar 2015 02:53:25 AM EET Name: BooleanSanity.patch Size: 2kB By: cazfi http://gna.org/patch/download.php?file_id=24015 --- Date: Sun 08 Mar 2015 02:53:25 AM EET Name: BooleanSanity-S2_6.patch Size: 2kB By: cazfi http://gna.org/patch/download.php?file_id=24016 --- Date: Sun 08 Mar 2015 02:53:25 AM EET Name: BooleanSanity-S2_5.patch Size: 2kB By: cazfi http://gna.org/patch/download.php?file_id=24017 ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?5918 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

However, I don't think ZOC are in practice ever relevant for such units, due to water terrains having the NoZoc flag. (The only case where boats can be on land tiles, moving in and out of cities, is a special case for ZOC anyway.) I think this is from patch #4818, where sea units were given ZOC so that a single-line ruleset change could enable naval ZOC in deep ocean. While we could do something complicated to suppress the ZOC words for units only native to NoZoc terrain, the simpler thing would be to comment out all the sea unit ZOC stuff (with a greppable tag like NAVAL_ZOC so it can easily be added back in). (Triremes have similar words, but they are genuinely relevant to Triremes due to river movement.) ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?23361 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #23340] Merchant units can only travel on ... (or) ships
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #23340 (project freeciv): Mm. I think it's OK English as it is, and my help is wordy enough as it is. Travel on ships is idiomatic. I suppose it is a kind of syllepsis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeugma#Type_2, at least in game rule terms, but not a particularly jarring one IMO. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?23340 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

In civ2civ3, Merchant units traditionally have similar restrictions to Big Land, but not being able to airlift them might be too annoying. [Freeciv-Dev] [patch #5917] civ2civ3/experimental: forbid airlift for Big Land units?
Follow-up Comment #1, patch #5917 (project freeciv): I'm not sure that airlift should be a barrier to moving *anything*. There are plenty of real-world examples of military cargo jets that can carry Main Battle Tanks, and Boeing's Dreamlifter was designed to carry other aircraft. Besides airlift, the *only* way to get units to another continent is the Transport. If Transport is the only way then that represents a hardship for land-locked nations. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?5917 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #5915] civ2civ3: Require tech to mine deserts / glaciers (oil wells)?
Follow-up Comment #1, patch #5915 (project freeciv): I'm not liking to see so many different requirements for the same mining task. It would be Construction for Deserts (and Tundra?, that can be mined here too), Refining for Glaciers, and Miniaturization for Oceans (this one already implemented). If they had an important effect on gameplay, it'd be worth for players to remember those requisites, but those mines are actually useless most of the time. For example, mining a desert is not very useful while the city is growing. I use to wait until the discovery of railroad that duplicates the effect, and even then it uses to be better to irrigate. It comes to my mind the idea of allowing a 1st mine that looks like a standard mine, and then the tech Refining would enable a 2nd mine in those terrains, with the look of an oil derrick. But it will require some time to balance properly such change. Please, let me think about it, because it could be a good solution to other issues too. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?5915 ___ Mensaje enviado vía/por Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #5917] civ2civ3/experimental: forbid airlift for Big Land units?
Follow-up Comment #2, patch #5917 (project freeciv): Now we have the Airliftable unit class flag, perhaps the bulkier units should be prevented from airlifting? I agree David here. Also, now that railroad does not grant unlimited movement, and maglev only affects to small land units (no big land), I think it is important to allow them to be airlifted. The only units that does not make sense to me if airlifted are the naval units. I notice airlifting of Helicopters wasn't allowed along other air units in patch #4812. Is that deliberate? I'm not sure why I did not include helis. Maybe I wasn't sure if a unit that can carry other units could cause troubles when airlifted. If there is no such problem, I vote to allow them to be airlefted too. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?5917 ___ Mensaje enviado vía/por Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4608] civ2civ3 rules: added pre-fortress
Follow-up Comment #18, patch #4608 (project freeciv): I remember it was intentional. I think because I did not like to see a unit in a city without airport (+33%) regenerating faster than in an airbase (+35%). The +10% of the Airstrip is supposed to be equal to the -10% lost out of bases (same turns recovering than turns outside). But it might be simpler to document a non cumulative +33% for the airbase, so it is equal than a city without airport. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?4608 ___ Mensaje enviado vía/por Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
