Follow-up Comment #5, bug #14846 (project freeciv):

I dowloaded it again and reinstalled it.  I also tried removing the vree civ
app/folders and reinstalling neither worked.  I also tried compiling freeciv
using darwin ports, but that freeciv did not function either. The self
compiled freeciv did not function (it did not display text only boxes[]) . 
the self compiled x11 freeciv properly displayed text in the main menu but
did not properly display the in game help browser.  It printed black smudges
instead of text.

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #14846 (project freeciv):

The 2.1.9 installer does not properly.  The freeciv app crashes immediately
on opening. I tried moving the application to a different location and it
started but the text (and images?) in the main menu did not display properly.
 The text appeared as boxes([]).

Details:

the help browser in freeciv does not display any text or images just black
smudges.  

I am using freeciv 2.1.6 the precompiled version

I am running OSX 10.5.8
Dual 1 ghz PPC G4 processors
and 1.5 GB of memory
