[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16667] en_GB strings in Freeciv source code
Update of bug #16667 (project freeciv): Status: In Progress = Ready For Test ___ Follow-up Comment #6: The attached patch fixes all the en_GB words in translatable strings in the source that I found on a quick look. They are replaced with what I believe to be the en_US equivalents. It also updates en_GB.po to preserve the words (but not to translate previously untranslated words). To ensure I was up to date, I ran make update-po first, so the patch may not apply cleanly to the en_GB.po in svn. Before applying this, I may run and commit make update-po across all translations, or I can do it just for en_GB.po if anyone objects. I've also attached corrections.po, which might allow automated defuzzification of existing (non-English) translations per this procedure http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2966026/how-to-efficiently-work-with-gettext-po-files-when-making-small-edits-to-large-te/3798064#3798064 (I don't think there are any changes here that will need translator review). However, last time I tried this I ran into trouble with character encodings and fixing up took longer than doing it by hand; if I run into this again, I probably won't try to update other translations, so there will be fuzzies. Follow-up Comment #5, bug #16667 (project freeciv): I think rulesets can be modified also in trunk, there shouldn't break anything (I did a quick grep on harbour, I didn't find any reference to the building). Unfortunately the string Harbour does appear in savegames -- the string is put in a struct name_translation and the untranslated version (vernacular) is used as a machine-readable persistent tag. So it's difficult to rename any ruleset item like that. (A problem I'm also encountering with specialists for patch #2050.) ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?16667 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

URL: http://gna.org/bugs/?16667 Summary: en_GB strings in Freeciv source code Project: Freeciv Submitted by: jtn Submitted on: Wednesday 09/08/10 at 23:37 Category: None Severity: 2 - Minor Priority: 1 - Later Status: Need Info Assigned to: None Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: Discussion Lock: Any Operating System: None Planned Release: ___ Details: I've noticed that there are a couple of British English strings in the source code. The most obvious one is Harbour; there are also a few honours in the AI messages. I assume the default language of Freeciv is notionally en_US, so those should be Harbor and honor respectively (unless a native speaker corrects me). I haven't done a thorough search for other possibilities. Anyone object to me correcting the strings in the source, and simultaneously manually adjusting po-files so as not to detach existing translations for a change that doesn't change the meaning? (Obviously ruleset names etc can't change, I'm only talking about user-visible text.) ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?16667 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
