bug #24970 has some comment seemingly related to this ticket:

"2.6.0alpha still tries those "termination in an unusual way" stunts, about
turn 470, and unsurprisingly bug #24466 did not "fix itself" -- I stumbled
over my oldest public vintage 2011 comment recently:

No, the AIs rarely try it, and there would be a message (+ popup with my
message options), if they do. I almost never try it, unless I insist on an
early finish without clicking on "quit" :-)

The number was completely different, 7 digits 1234567 starting with a 2, my
theory that it's some signed vs. unsigned issue was wrong.

If it always happens late in the game, could it be that someone has just
started to build spaceship? Spaceship dialog is known to have some problem in
gtk2-client.

In a r33261 2.5.4 test version it took until turn 510, and that could be
another common factor, the gtk2 clients on Windows 7 x64 tend to crash later
for recent versions.

Odd, I was sure that I've reported this complete with a RPT at lease twice,
using a screenshot here mainly as joke. But I only find bug #22892 which might
be related (checking everything submitted by None or dunnoob). 

Maybe I added other reports as comments to bugs reported by other folks.
Following the XREFs, yes, bug #22685 belongs to the series.

It happens always in long uninterrupted (no other quit) games since 2.3.x on
Windows 7 with the gtk2 clients (others not tested). The first time somewhere
between turn 350..450, the second time after turn 500, no third time (game
finished).

Sometimes there's a warning, parts of a popup displayed as black or other
visual artefacts. In these cases I save, quit and reload to avoid the crash.
