Re: [Freedos-devel] LibreSSL port to FreeDOS

OpenWatcom.com is back up. They have a message stating they are in tropical
storm season and they take the servers down every once in awhile.

TK Chia thanks for the tip on V2. I am aware of it's existence.

I don't mind.

The only thing that bothers me is that I don't have as much time for
coding like I used to. Otherwise I'd be tackling the bugs. But once I
stepped into a CIO role over 8 years ago, I really didn't have much
spare time to do side projects. I needed my weekends and evenings to
relax.

But I've changed gears, and now I set up a training and consulting
business. I can set my own hours, as long as I meet my goals for the
year. That means more flexibility. I've got some plans that might give
me the extra freedom to commit more time to working on FreeDOS.

I just need to be more careful about time commitments. I decided to do
another leadership book this summer, and write a chapter for someone
else's leadership book, and write an upcoming feature article for a
magazine. Any two of those projects could take up all of my spare
time, and I've got all three. (They looked like small projects when I
decided to do them, but ended up taking more time than I thought they
would.)

Hi :-)

First of all: Congrats! 25 years of FreeDOS with Jim! :-)

After watching that youtube, I wonder what it would have
been like for him having taken that DOS job in Japan :-)

Embarassing indeed...

> automatic network card detection

I vaguely remember something like that in Bart L's older
DOS "Network Boot Disk", sort of lspci plus batch style?
One could also use FreeCOM's magic SET with PCISLEEP Q02.

Better scalability would be nice, yes.

Eric

PS: How similar to Imre's 2007 FIND 3.0 with LFN
is the one fixed by recompiling with TC++ 1.01?
And who/when compiled that in LFN-breaking ways?

unfortunately it looks like there are now more milestones ahead then
bug fixes.

milestones like FreeCOM bugs unfixed for straight 10 years. Congrats.

not even talking about feature enhancements.
automatic network card detection would be one such feature ...
and a more reasonable live CD
and a setup CD that doesn't require 128 MB. This is DOS after
all.

but at least there are pretty t-shirts ...

Darn, now I really feel old. I think I have been along this more
or less the whole time...

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone in the FreeDOS
community - past and present. Open source software is about
people coming together to work on something, and that's you. If I
ever meet any of you in person, I'll buy you a beer/beverage.

When are you heading to LA? Weather is fine right now, after
having months more feeling like Seattle around here...

Not sure the next time I'm headed to LA, but since I live in the
Frozen North of Minnesota, maybe I should plan a visit during the
winter. :-)

Seriously, if I'm ever in your area, and we can get together, I'm
always happy to! I've met a few of you in person. Always good to put a
face to the name.

Likewise... ;-)

One of my neighbors here from the canyon is from Wisconsin and offered
me to take me to a trip back to his hometown (somewhere north of Green
Bay), if that would happen, I think there could be time for a trip a bit
further to the west.

And to be somewhat on topic, I just saw today an article on ZDNet that
Microsoft is thinking of a new (open source?) release of Windows 1.0.
Windows like it's 1985... :P
