# Please remove me from your list. I appreciate it!

I feel the need to forward on this gem from the Qt mailing list,
courtesy of Guido Seifert and Till Oliver Knoll. It has been
appropriately modified for this list:

Forget it. You are trapped here forever. :-)

%> Look at trap

You see a trapdoor in the wall. Besides it there is a red towel.

%> Look at towel

It's a largish bath towel from Marks and Spencer. It looks like it has
travelled far through the galaxy.

%> Take towel

You have taken the towel. It has revealed a hidden lever.

%> Pull lever

With a noisy "ekkksss!" the trapdoor opens. A hidden dungeon lies to
the north behind it. A few steps away there is something on the floor
which looks like an envelope.

%> Go north

You walk into the dungeon. It's getting dark. Just to your feets lies
the envelope.

%> Take envelope

You now have the envelope.

%> Open envelope

A note is inside.

%> Read note

It is too dark to read.

%> Turn on flash light

Luckily enough you have your flash light always with you (equiped with
infinity batteries). It is now bright.

%> Read note

It sais: "Please send your 'unsubscribe' request to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and follow
instructions.

p.s. That's -REQUEST! Signed, the dungeon troll"

%> Ignore note

You are eaten by a grue.

Well u asked me about "comments" and thats the thing that catched my
attention.
i am so tired that theres no good "old" software is avalible, only
"32-bit-extender-bla"
i know its importand to many ppl, but the reason i got into freedos was
because i was looking for some NON-32bit software. if i would want 32bit
software theres other systems like qnx, os/2, linux, coherent etc wich
would do -imho- a better job.. but i am getting more and more off-topic.

no idea about that (just read some stuff on the website)

Check http://fd-doc.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?n=FdDocEn.Gamers
(this was linked from the start page of freedos.org in the past...)

> is there anybody who might know the right settings ?

Those depend on your hardware. Unless you have a true non-plug-n-play
SoundBlaster compatible soundcard, you WILL need either a BIOS with
the option to support "Non PnP Operating Systems" turned on or some
DOS PnP software (check the mailing list archives for Intel ICU).

It is also very likely that you need some kind of INITIALIZER. For
example for ISA SB AWE32 PnP soundcards, you would use "diagnose /s"
(the tool ships with the card).

For PCI soundcards, you will often need some other special drivers,
which will likely have to be loaded as device drivers or as TSR.
Some onboard PCI sound chips also need some special BIOS setup
options turned on to enable the chip and/or the SB mode of the chip.

> is there a tool like lspci for an old 486-dos pc ?

Yes, if your PC has a PCI BIOS and a PCI bus, you can use
PCISLEEP L to get a list of devices. Guess who wrote it ;-).
I noticed that your computer (ancient laptop?) is hardly
mentioned on www any more at all, so I could not find out
what type of onboard sound you have. I hope PCISLEEP will
find out. Otherwise you will have to ask ICU or a similar
ISA PnP tool, because then you will have non-PCI sound.

Eric

PS: About FreeBASIC, it is no problem that FreeBASIC only
works on 386+ computers. It is no problem either that it
is more strict about some things than QBASIC. The REAL
question is whether QBASIC programs run with FreeBASIC
with minimal modifications. Because basically BWBASIC is
missing so many QBASIC "library" functions (graphics,
sound, conio...) that many progs do not run in it at all.

its not a "standart dos" compiler. Requires 386sx and up, so it wont
make "nomal" dos programms wich should work even on a 8086/88, just 32-bit.
Besides of that nice Software.

have a nice day

Hi

After long time i placed my old 486-66 back to live.
its a Packard Bell Spectria Packmate with sound onboard.
the motherboard is a *pb450mp.*
if i remeber right i have to set a evn.var Blaster to be able to use
sound for games.
i used all combinations based on
http://rinkworks.com/apogee/s/6.4.2.shtml that seems to make sense, and
i tried a lot more.. but didnt worked.

is there anybody who might know the right settings ?

is there a tool like lspci for an old 486-dos pc ?
