 I use (including for this message) TCPMAIL, a DOS program
I found at 
 Attachments are OK, but you must mime-encode and attach them yourself.
It has no automation at all, not even for creating the header.

no idea, Eric might send email from DOS and thus know something about 
that. All my email and webbrowsing goes through windows.
