Re: [Freedos-user] What do you do with your FreeDos PC?

2020-12-06 Thread Dean Galloway

I set my Freedos machine up as a GOPHER client.

I know a lot of folks use virtual machines for Freedos, but I'm kind of
partial to the physical device sitting in the corner.

I've had limited success with web browsing and am yet to find an email
client that supports IMAP.

Never was much of a game player.

At the moment, nothing; I'm waiting for a sore foot to heal before
using an old Polar heart-monitor.

I was thinking of utility type things that are easier or more quickly
done in DOS, but I'm wide open to any ideas.

Apart from that old application, all I ever did was play Hangman!

[Freedos-user] Dillo Web Browser

2020-12-06 Thread Dean Galloway

Hello all,

I've installed Dillo web browser a few times and it's never even
started.  I corrected the path variable in DILLO.BAT but no success.

Can someone let me know if there are certain "tricks" that need to be
performed before I can get it going?

Thanks,

Dean.

Re: [Freedos-user] Dillo Web Browser

2020-12-08 Thread Dean Galloway

Hello Andrea and all others in the group:

Thank you all for your replies regarding Dillo Web Browser.

I had been under the impression Dillo was a better web browser and may
be worth the effort to get functioning, but there appears to be more
negative reports, along with the fact it is not really compatible with
day to day websites.  I'll probably still leave it in the list of things
to tackle, just more likely on the back burner.  I'll look more into
Links and see what I can come up with.

Thank you again!
Dean.

I used Dillo and before Arachne- dos browsers - but currently the
only dos browser still developed is LINKS (Links.twibright.com) both
in textual and gui mode. It is light and efficient even on old pc andrea

Hello Andrea,

Perhaps you can post some screenshots of the messages you are receiving
when the packet driver loads?

Thanks,

Re: [Freedos-user] fdnet.bat

2021-03-15 Thread Dean Galloway

Hi Andrea,

OK, just at a glance, you already have the functioning packet driver
when you load ODIPKT, the ODI driver lists the MAC address, line speed, etc.

What it appears FDNET is doing is attempting to identify and load an
additional packet driver, using the configuration in MTCP.CFG within the
package, which is not correct.  You can see this here:

*/System: [345]86 processor, ISA bus, Two 8259s /*
*/Packet driver software interrupt is 0x60 (96) /*
*/Interrupt number 0x5 (5) /*
*/I/O port 0x300 (768) /*
*/My Ethernet address is FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF /*

The interrupt is 5, whereas the interrupt/IRQ for the Broadcom card has
been successfully found at interrupt/IRQ 6.

I'm not sure what you are trying to get working in Freedos but you are
well on the way to getting TCP/IP working.  The packet driver is
installed and working from what I can see, FDNET is not necessarily
required here if you want to use the MTCP tools (DHCP, etc), you can
load the MTCP tools separately and get the same thing.  Are you familiar
with this?

Thanks,
Dean.

It is clear that ther's a conflict, (and I don't know what it is) but other
than that I am doubtful that
fdnet .bat is useful for those who only use freedos and not vb.
