Re: [Freedos-user] Problems to download
Hi > But, as we are already talking about servers for > FreeDOS 1.0, I would suggest that people who want > to provide mirror space on their own web servers > or ftp servers should contact us now :-). When we > have the final version of FreeDOS 1.0 ready, it > would be nice if people would have the choice > between several servers for downloading it. I can offer u some servers located in North America, Europe and Asia but i might limit the traffic to maybe 1tb/month (u never know how much traffic is expected) Maybe 2 years ago i used to mirror always the latest versions from freedos on my freedos mirror in germany, but it got removed regularly from the list (i needed to email jh to add me again) wich made me just stop it (i am talking about the file-mirror not the website). Another 2 ideas : 1) i can provide a script that would send the files via dcc upon request on our irc network (the one who already hosts the #freedos channel). 2) when i was living in the phils connection to the "outside world" was terribly slow (isp's rather used sattelite uplinks with big delays and small bandwith than verry expensive oversea cables) so i came up with a little script that would just split a file into some small chunks and then send it as email attachement. the good thing is that i checked email with full speed at my local isp there. ok it took sometimes 2-3 days till all email arrived but the actual download was much faster. maybe thats still helpfull for some 3rd world countries or places with poor internet connection. i also think that the torrend idea is verry good. tassilo - Using Tomcat but need to do more? [Freedos-user] [OT] zip drive dos drivers
hi for days now i try to get a dos-driver for my iomega zip drive 100 (paralell port) but it seems all liks in google i find are dead or just contain win2k or something like that drivers. at iomega directly they offer me "download driver for dos" but then i get a "0 files found" *sigh* i tried to sign up at driverguide or familiar but i was never able to complete signup. i get a mail, saining i sould go to a specific link, if i go there they say my data is incorect, please check ur data and after i submittet it i get a mail, saying go to that link, there saying incorect data, and so on and on (but thats offtopic i think). so would be really greate if somebody who still has such a "old" device and also still has the install cd could give me the file (guest.exe i think is the one) or maybe could tell me where i could find this file. thanks a lot Markus --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Re: [Freedos-user] rawrite 32bit software ?
Hello let us know if it works, it's always interesting to see if files/programs work properly on ancient computers :) Yes it worked. i think dos 3.2 is to blame. i tried to boot my old dos and got on every pc the same results. after swapping hd's i was able to install odin on it and placed it back in my 286 and it boots freedos without any problems. (also rawrite works (wich was the origin of all of this)) But one last question i have. i cant format any partitions bigger than 20 meg. i allways thought the "magic" number was 32 meg. well in the pc is a 50 meg hdd and if i create a 50 meg primary partition i get a "theres an error with the first 5 sectors" and format stops. reducing the partition to 45,40, 32 etc allways the same error. just with a 20 meg partition it gets formated without any complaints. its not importand to me at all to have 20 or 50 megs, i just boot from the disk and have a few utils there the rest gets mapped thru network. i am just curious .. so the first 5 sectors are different if a partition is 20 meg size or 50 ? i allways thought the start at 0 and then go on... have a nice day tassilo --- SF.Net email is Sponsored by the Better Software Conference & EXPO September 19-22, 2005 * San Francisco, CA * Development Lifecycle Practices Agile & Plan-Driven Development * Managing Projects & Teams * Testing & QA Security * Process Improvement & Measurement * http://www.sqe.com/bsce5sf ___ Freedos-user mailing list Freedos-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-user

[Freedos-user] some questions about freedos with a xt
hi i tried to use freedos with one of my old pc's wich is a "daig&lauer 2in1". dont know if it is known outside of germany, but here it was used quiet often as pc for "drugstores". it has a 8088 with 640kb ram and a 40 meg mfm-drive. some little problems i have with this items : - if i use "dir" it shows me the directory and then "hangs" for approx 30 seconds till it shows the last line. (on dos4.0 wich was earlyer it didnt had the behavior). - chkdsk takes 17 minutes.. (dos took 1:31min) - mema just dont output annything.. no error, too.. just a free line and then back to the prompt. (what can i use to show the free memory) - the tree comando also works extemly slow - the "net" (from the ms tools) command hangs the pc, (with ms-dos no problems) i installed dos 6.22 later after freedos again to check if maybe my hardware is bustes, but with 6.22 everything works well again. i post that here not to say that ms-dos is better, just curious why freedos behaves this way (so slow). on my other pc's freedos just runs fine. i think its probalby not importand since who is really using a pc/xt in this days ? was just curious. tassilo -- /"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign \ / No proprietary formats in attachments without request X i.e. *NO* WORD, POWERPOINT or EXCEL documents / \ Respect Open Standards --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials Free Linux tutorial presented by Daniel Robbins, President and CEO of GenToo technologies.
