[Freedos-user] Had trouble getting autoexec.bat to run on boot, and Whiplash game results in GPF

I posted to the ML sometime early last week about not being able to install
FreeDOS, and was directed to install the base version without network
support. I did, and the install went through successfully.

Just want to update you guys on my experiences since.

1) FreeDOS considers the hdd it boots from to be C, but fdconfig.sys had
some lines that that referred to D:\freedos\bin which I had to change to
C:\freedos\bin to get it to run autoexec.bat on boot. Not sure why it had
the wrong lines, but you might want to look into it.

2) I installed FreeDOS hoping to get an old DOS racing game, Whiplash, to
run (the game doesn't run under XP). Well, it doesn't run under FreeDOS
either... it results in a general protection fault. Also loading from the
optical drive seems excessively slow.

If you want more details on either of these problems let me know and
I'll provide specifics.

[Freedos-user] Can't install FreeDOS

2007-12-23 Thread Rob Larkins

'Can't install FreeDOS.

I tried to report this to Bugzilla but I'm not getting the confirmation
email(s) when I try to set up an account.

Anyway, my problem... when the installation routine asks me my IP
address I enter DHCP. The install responds:

Configuration complete.
Dependencies met or there aren't any dependencies.
Configuring...
D:\FDOS\Bin\CTMOUSE\ctm-EN.exe => D:\FDOS\Bin\mouse.exe
Configuration complete.
Dependencies met or there aren't dependencies.
Configuring...
Configuring through DHCP...

And then it starts beeping like crazy.

I assume the problem has something to do with obtaining the IP address
from my ISP. I don't know whether it matters, but I have a Buffalo
Airstation router.

Like I said I tried to report this to the FreeDOS bugzilla but I
wasn't
able to set up my account. Any help reporting the bug or installing
FreeDOS would be greatly appreciated.
