Re: [Freedos-user] help - how to make freedos bootable disk
Michael Thanks for info. I'm out of my depth here. Apologies to anyone misled by my suggestion. My EMM386 is version 1.13. When I load FreeDOS with option 1 of Config.sys "Load FreeDOS with maximum RAM free, using EMM386" - my program (a 682kB djgpp EXE, an awkward size) pages out as soon as the graphic changes. When I load FreeDOS with option 3, it doesn't. The program is memory-intensive (texture bitmaps in memory). Is there something I can do to optimise the way I use memory ? Is it better to do that than to rely on CWSDPMI ? alan Don't know if your program uses DPMI, but some out of memory problems can be solved by disabling memory drivers e.g. EMM386/HIMEM, and letting DPMI take over extended memory. This worked for my DJGPP program which uses DPMI.. http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/v2faq/faq15_7.html When I first ran it, it would page out every time something moved on screen. After I disabled memory drivers, it's fine. Hi Alan: Nero has an option to burn an ISO image directly to CD. I don't have Nero, but according to this page: http://www.wizardskeep.org/mainhall/tutor/neroiso.html there is a "Burn Image..." under "File". That's what you want to use. It wants the ISO file (fdbootcd.iso). Try that and you should get a bootable CD. Glad I could help! Mark ho kok foo wrote: hi Mark, Thank you very much for your advice.
