Re: NAS info + MySQL

2005-06-06 Thread Marcin Jessa
Hi again.

I noticed when I add new NAS servers to SQL on a running radius server, they
will not be used before the radius server is restarted.
Is that a case or am I mistaken here?
If that's the case, how will restarting radius affect user's accounting info?
What will happen with the accounting info of an already loged in user, will it
get synced when the radius server is started again?
Is there a way to make radius automatically read new entries added to the nas
table ?

Regards,
Marcin Jessa.

passwords

2005-06-06 Thread Dean Mumby
Hi all , firstly I installed 1.0.1-1 for centos 3.4 and then downloaded
the latest 1.0.3 tar ball and installed dialup_admin. I am able to add
users but when I test a password it always says failed. Is there a
setting that I have missed somewhere that controls whether the pasword
are crypt or not ? I intend to have all auth and acc configured in mysql.

Secondly when I tried to compile 1.0.3 I also get the error that has
been reported. I guess there will be an update sometime soon.

Thirdly I rebuilt the srpm for centos in order to get the mysql ,
postgresql specific rpms I noticed that a number of patches are applied
to freeradius , are these neccessary ? while I was rebuilding the rpm
using the 1.0.3 tarball I noticed that some of the patches would not
apply so i simply removed them. The spec file that comes with freeradius
does not aply these patches.

Dean

Re: Authenticate to eDirectory

2005-06-06 Thread Sayantan Bhowmick
Hi,
   The documentation in:
http://www.novell.com/documentation/edir_radius/index.html
gives a list of dependencies for the freeRADIUS rpm. If you install
these rpms(through yast) you should be able to install the freeradius
rpm at:
http://forge.novell.com/modules/xfcontent/downloads.php/edirfreeradius

The latest version of FreeRADIUS is 1.0.3. You can get the source
from freeRADIUS site(http://www.freeradius.org/getting.html).

-Sayantan

>>>[EMAIL PROTECTED] 06/03/05 12:49 pm >>>
>>One possible reason could be that the user you are building the

I should have stated that i am logged in and running this as root.
>>You can also get the FreeRADIUS RPMs for SLES 8 or SLES 9 from:
http://forge.novell.com/modules/xfcontent/downloads.php/edirfreeradius
So, i downloaded the rpm (and consoleone plug-in (thanks for the link))
and tried to install it using yast. Of course, when yast checks the
dependencies, it says that libk5xx.so, libmysql.so and lib5kcrypto are
missing. So, i searched (in yast>software>install and remove software)
for the said lib's/files, none found. Huh??
So, i thought maybe i could install the freeradius 0.9.3 version and
then "upgrade" to the new version 1.0.5 (i think).
So as it stands now, i can not install the 1.0.5 version on
SLES9/OES-Linux using edirectory. What am i missing. Thanks for all the
help!

radrelay bug with large attributes

2005-06-06 Thread Simon Pasquier

Hello all,

I'm using freeRadius version 1.0.1 on 2 servers and radrelay is running on the
2 machines.
When a Radius packet contains large attributes (typically attributes with large
hexadecimal values like Class), the packet sent by radrelay to the other server
is incomplete.

I found a message in the archives of the mailing-list that describes exactly
the same pb:
http://lists.cistron.nl/pipermail/freeradius-users/2003-June/019683.html
I applied the "fix" provided in this message and it solved the pb.

I've checked the bug database and the latest version of radrelay.c in the CVS repository but I couldn't find anything.
So I was wondering if a bug should be opened to track this issue?

Thanks,

Simon

Re: ADSL access server, freeradius and MULTI IP assignement

2005-06-06 Thread Simone Giovanardi
Hi Dario,

I have the same cisco 7200 Access server.

try to set at 255.255.255.255 the framed ipo netmask parameter...
In my configuration works.

I have a question for you:

i've tried to configure ip pool for releasing of dynamic IP range address but
doesn' work well and i don't understand why it gives out always the same 2
address in the range that i have configured!!

How have you configured your radiusd.conf file?

Thank a lot

RADIUS IP Pooling

2005-06-06 Thread Ferreira, André
Title: RADIUS IP Pooling

I am looking for more technical information regarding how RADIUS does IP pooling.
Is there a specific RFC explaining the process.

I am assuming that when RADIUS sends an ACCESS_ACCEPT message,
an IP is selected from the pool and it is send together with the ACCESS_ACCEPT message to the client.

Any documentation pointers welcome.

Thanx.

Re: [Fwd: rlm_passwd & realms]

2005-06-06 Thread Edgars

Alan or Kevin,

found this possible to be done with Autz-Type.

First, I have one passwd file which should check the following things:

passwd edg_check {
   filename = /etc/freeradius/pass_check
   format = "*Realm:~NAS-IP-Address:Autz-Type"

   }

The name of this passwd I have put in authorize section. In the same
section I have also created an Autz-Type, like follows:

authorzie{
 preprocess
 mschap
 chap
 suffix
 edg_check
 Autz-Type mt {
edg_pass
edg_pass_group
 }
}

So the content of the 'edg_check' is 'mt:10.5.8.102:mt'.
Seems that somewhere is mistake caus' receiving in the debug screen the
following information (pay attention to "rlm_passwd: *Unable to create
Autz-Type: mt*". What could it mean?):

.
rlm_realm: Looking up realm "mt" for User-Name = "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
   rlm_realm: Found realm "mt"
   rlm_realm: Adding Stripped-User-Name = "edg"
rlm_realm: Proxying request from user edg to realm mt
   rlm_realm: Adding Realm = "mt"
   rlm_realm: Authentication realm is LOCAL.
modcall[authorize]: module "suffix" returns noop for request 0
rlm_eap: No EAP-Message, not doing EAP
modcall[authorize]: module "eap" returns noop for request 0
rlm_passwd: *Unable to create Autz-Type: mt*
rlm_passwd: Added NAS-IP-Address: '10.5.8.102' to request_items
modcall[authorize]: module "edg_check" returns ok for request 0
modcall: group authorize returns ok for request 0
auth: No authenticate method (Auth-Type) configuration found for the
request: Rejecting the user

auth: Failed to validate the user.
Login incorrect: [edg/edg] (from client lalala port 0 cli 10.5.8.106)

Thanks a lot,

2005-06-06 Thread Edgars

Hi again.

I noticed when I add new NAS servers to SQL on a running radius server, they
will not be used before the radius server is restarted.
Is that a case or am I mistaken here?

it is like it currently is supposted to be. IMHO, the accounting packets
which will be droped due this will be resend with the next accounting
portion.

You can send a HUP signal to make configuration files reloaded.

Trouble with HTTPS and mod_auth_radius

2005-06-06 Thread Zawacki Jason D Contr AFRL/IFOS
Hey folks,

I'm having trouble getting my configuration to work with SSL enabled in
apache 1.3.33 using mod_auth_radius (mod_auth_radius.c,v 1.15 2003/03/24
19:16:15). This same setup works fine when SSL is not enabled. If I go to
the page I've configured for radius auth, I get an Internal Server Error.
I've shut off all other authentications for this location (NTLM) and the
mod_auth module is not being activated. Even so, the apache error log
indicates that it is looking for a user file as if I were using mod_auth.
Here is my setup:

...
LoadModule radius_auth_module libexec/mod_auth_radius.so
...
#AddModule mod_auth.c
...
AddModule mod_auth_radius.c
...
AddRadiusAuth X.X.X.X:1812 XX
AddRadiusCookieValid5
...

AllowOverride None
order allow,deny
allow from all

AuthName "RRS Radius test"
AuthType Basic
NTLMAuthoritative off
NTLMAuth off
NTLMBasicAuth off
AuthRadiusAuthoritative on
AuthRadiusActive on
require valid-user

Like I said, the same setup works fine for a non-SSL URL, which puzzles me
greatly. I'm using this box to test several authentication schemes
including ldap, ntlm, and kerberos and none of demonstrated the same
behavior.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ip pool doesn't works properly

2005-06-06 Thread Simone Giovanardi
Hi,

How can I configure FreeRADIUS to assign IP address dinamically with Ip Pool
when there is a
successful authentication from Cisco 7200 access server with FreeRADIUS 1.0.0?

This is my ip pool config section on radiusd.conf:

ippool main_pool {
# range-start,range-stop: The start and end ip
# addresses for the ip pool
range-start = 83.216.175.129
range-stop = 83.216.175.253
# netmask: The network mask used for the ip's
netmask = 255.255.255.0
# cache-size: The gdbm cache size for the db
# files. Should be equal to the number of ip's
# available in the ip pool
cache-size = 127
# session-db: The main db file used to allocate ip's to clients
session-db = ${raddbdir}/db-satc.ippool
# ip-index: Helper db index file used in multilink
ip-index = ${raddbdir}/db-satc.ipindex
# override: Will this ippool override a Framed-IP-Address
already set
override = no
# maximum-timeout: If not zero specifies the maximum time in
seconds an
# entry may be active. Default: 0
maximum-timeout = 86400
}

Like this it works sending out only 2 ip address...always the same...

Bye

Is your Cisco sending a unique nasport/nasip for each client? Ip pool
uses the nasip/nasport to identify the user.

run radiusd -X and have several users establish a connection. Post the
output here if you can't decifer it.

Hello,
I am trying to install freeradius 1.0.3 in a machine running Linux ubuntu

1. Will the following procedure work?
tar xzf ~/freeradius-1.0.3.tar.gz
cd freeradius-1.0.3
fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage -b
sudo dpkg -i ../freeradius_1.0.3-0_i386.deb
2. Do I have to make any changes due to the fact that (i) I am using
ubuntu (Debian) or that (ii) I will be using MySQL modules?
Thanks,

That would require apache to have access to the radius deamon when using a
web-based interface.
Even worse, it'd be pretty much impossible to write an secure GUI application
to remotely access freeradius and make it reread the data stored in SQL since
activating the changes made in the nas table will require sending HUP signal to
the server.
Maybe a wrapper for that could fix it but IMHO it's not a very "elegant"
solution.

I mean, if a user is loged in and the user's accouting information cannot be
stored in the database becouse the radius daemon was not accessible by a NAS.
Will the accounting information from the time when the radius wasn't running
get appended to the old information (before radius got HUP'ed) ?

You're having a web page update RADIUS clients in SQL, and you're
worried about a "secure" GUI? That makes no sense.

If the application can update the SQL data, you've already lost most
of the security of your system. It means that someone breaking in
through that application can update SQL, and then use a malicious
RADIUS client to further attack the server.

> Maybe a wrapper for that could fix it but IMHO it's not a very
> "elegant" solution.

A web GUI updating the configuration for a security-critical
application isn't a very "elegant" solution, either.

Pick your battles. If you're going to drive around with your card
windows rolled down, it doesn't make much sense to lock the doors for
extra "security".

The NAS will keep sending the accounting information until it gets a
response.

And to answer a question you didn't ask, you're making the
assumption that a HUP will kill the server. It won't. It will cause
the server to re-read it's configuration files. Nothing more.

WLAN Transport protocol

2005-06-06 Thread Joseph Abadi
Hello,

I have a question not entirely related to freeradius

We are running a wireless network and using freeradius with PEAP and
MySQL for authentication.
The whole setup works fine when the wireless cards have the WLAN
Transport protocol Installed. But we are also working with some 20 USB
wireless adapters that don't come with the protocol and don't give us
the option to install it. Those cards aren't able to connect at all.
Here comes the very noob question: is there a way to download that
protocol or it has to be provided with the card/adapter itself ?

Thanks for your help,

Port-Limit/Simultaneous Use based on NAS IP

2005-06-06 Thread N White
Is this possible? Set a Port-Limit/Simultaneous-Use based on the NAS-IP
that is sent to the FreeRadius server? Here is the setup I am looking at:
I have several users on Dial-Up that are only allowed 1 login at a time.
Now I have several Wireless users that will be logging in twice via
PPPoE (Twice because once for their CPE/Radio and once more for their
home Router). The wireless users are allowed Dial-Up on top of their
wireless service, but only when their Wireless is not in use. I want
them to be able to login twice if they are logging in through the PPPoE
server, otherwise only login once for Dial-Up. So then is this setup
possible? I've read through a lot of the docs that are included with
FreeRADIUS but haven't really seen anything relating to this. Any
guidance/examples/input is appreciated.

The way I understand it, say a PHP script used to HUP radiusd would get
executed as the httpd user. In that case the httpd deamon would need to be
added to the sudoers group like this:
www your.server = NOPASSWD: /usr/local/sbin/radiusd
How else can this be done?

That actually makes sense. In both cases a user can be granted only certain
privilegues by the tool he/she uses not being able to do any harm to the radius
server.
Anyway, a well coded web or GUI application shouldn't be less secure as a *NIX
server granting access to remotely accessible services like sshd or smtpd.

The FreeRadius daemon can be remotely accessed and it updates data stored in
SQL database.
Does it make it unsecure ?
There is allways a chance someone can do something nasty with some tool.

Hi,

I have been watching this from the beginning ;) It got really interesting
now. Does anyone know about OMAPI support in DHCPd? It allows you to change
the config ( for example - update a lease ) at the real time without a need
to restart a server.

I am not a professional programmer, but would it be hard to implement
something like that in freeRadius? Lets say to change the NAS info, or the
IP pools etc...

I never said I want to run radiusd as www user.
Web scripts get executed as the www user. That way I need to grand apache
access to HUP radiusd and that can be done with sudo adding www user to the
sudoers file and allowing it to exec /usr/local/sbin/radiusd.
That is the only solution I can think of to be able to HUP radiusd running a
script from web interface.
That's the whole point, I wished there was a better way to do that.
The perfect solution would be to have radiusd reread the nas table when it gets
changed.

Cheers,
Marcin

AFAIR PowerDNS uses a similar solution.
It alows the DNS server to immediately answer the queries reading freshly
inserted info in the SQL tables.

The only thing that needs non-WWW permissions is a script which does:

#!/bin/sh
[ -f /var/log/radius/radiusd.pid] && kill -HUP `cat /var/log/radius/radiusd.pid`

It doesn't need to exec radiusd.

You've said that a number of times. We're all very clear on your opinions.

  You can now:

  1) Pay someone to write that code
  2) write it yourself
  3) wait for someone to write it for free

Repeatedly posting the same comment on the list isn't going to give
anyone incentive to write the code.

Marcin,

Since configuration changes aren't usually real-time, perhaps a normal cron job sending SIGHUP will suffice?
FAQ 5.9 shows the command, and put those commands into a cron job.
That way, you do not need sudo privileges.

As a small optimization, the web GUI can also create a file to indicate that the config has changed.
The cron job instead of sending SIGHUP so very often can then check for this file.
When that file is present, delete the file and then send the SIGHUP.  (order important to avoid race condition).

The released date of 1.0.3

2005-06-06 Thread Lei Chen
Why the 1.0.3's released date is later than 1.0.2's.
1.0.2 is more stable? Or just a spelling mistake?.

released version: 1.0.3)

* 2005.02.16 1.0.2
* 2004.08.17 1.0.1
* 2004.08.09 1.0.0,

Re: Authenticate to eDirectory

2005-06-06 Thread carnold5
Hello! Well, now i am completely confused..I have tried to install
openldap2 before on sles9/oes-linux and last time edirectory did not
start and i had to reinstall from scratch. And again, when selecting
the dependencies before installing freeradius i get this:
*openldap2 2.2.6-37.36 conflict
conflicts with: NDSserv conflicts with openldap2
*Conflict resolution:
do not install openldap2
-or-
*remove all 4 conflicting packages:
delete novstlog
delete ndsimon
delete novlembox
delete ndsserv
*ignore conflict and risk system inconsistencies

At least 2 of these are key novell components. So, i did not install
openldap2 or freeradius. Can someone explain how to make these 2
components work together?

Hi,
   The documentation in:
http://www.novell.com/documentation/edir_radius/index.html
gives a list of dependencies for the freeRADIUS rpm. If you install
these rpms(through yast) you should be able to install the freeradius
rpm at:
http://forge.novell.com/modules/xfcontent/downloads.php/edirfreeradius

The latest version of FreeRADIUS is 1.0.3. You can get the source
from freeRADIUS site(http://www.freeradius.org/getting.html).

make install error in Solaris 8, freeradius-1.0.3

2005-06-06 Thread Lei Chen

I find the message in the web, maybe we need to wait
it.
06 June, 2005 Minor problems in version 1.0.3 mean
that we will be releasing 1.0.4 in a day or so. Please
wait until then to upgrade.
