Hi,

Snapshots are here : http://freevo.sourceforge.net/snapshots/

If you are using gentoo, you can use Dichi's ebuild, download the rsync script,
don't forget to set the portage overlay dir (/etc/make.conf)

rsync-freevo script under gentoo : http://freevo.sourceforge.net/install.html#Download

good luck getting mplayer to play anything fullscreen on any framebuffer
 other than the Matrox G400.

It is already working. The only tricky thing was the append line in lilo.conf.

and if you do find a way to get mplayer to play fullscreen on the generic
 framebuffer... please let me know!

The generic frame buffer does not work. I am using the sisfb driver. The generic frame
buffer only let me use 640x480x8.

I strongly suggest you go the X window route to get mplayer to scale
 fullscreen,

Perhaps you mean hardware scaling? Software scaling works.

do not use a window manager as that adds only un-needed bloat,
specifying a single line to start freevo in your .xinitrc should do the
 job.

I thought that the X window system itself is un-needed bloat compared to the frame
buffer solution. But perhaps I am missing something here.
I will try your suggestion. Perhaps the bloat really only consists in the window
manager. KDE really needs a little time to start up.

use the sis driver in Xfree86. although the vesa driver also works with
this chipset and still enables the XV playback acceleration on mpeg2
 files.

There is one sis driver in debian woody which does not seem to work. I am going to try
to download it from Thomas Winischhofers page.

Also cince you have i810 for your audio, you are also suffering with the
chipset limitations... the latest alsa fixes most of those, the OSS
 drivers
I believe are legacy as alsa is now the standard for linux sound as of
 2.4.6..

Ok, I have heard of this. But it was really easy to get OSS running and it sounds
good... Which limitations do I have with this?

you MUST set mplayer to record at 48000 if you are recording from the
line-in. and the sound is cleaner if you are able to force the sound
 output
 to 48000.

I have not tried recording yet...

It sounds like your machine has the same hardware my micro-ATX motherboard
has..(except for the tv out... that is nice that yours has that.)

Yes, that's one reason I have bought exactly this box. It should have a really good TV
out. Which I haven't even tried out yet...

Thorsten

It should, it works for me using X. You need access to all devices
freevo needs (like /dev/dsp0). But for some reasons, framebuffer
output doesn't work for me as user. It's more a SDL problem than a
 freevo one.

It also seems that freevo does not like it at all when I try to

[Freevo-users] Timed recording from line in?

I can't see any information in the docs about timed recording of audio-only

and have the tuner output connected to the line in. How do I set freevo to
record them?

Hmm, I have discovered that it is the m3u playlist that is causing the crash,
there are a couple of odd filenames in there, two with an ! and one with a
double period .. perhaps one of these is destabilising the menu generator

Problem found
Freevos menu generator does not like ! in the titles within the #EXTINF lines
in the playlist file.

I remove the exclamation marks then I dont get the crash.

RE: [Freevo-users] TV out resolution on a ATI AIWonder card? (Wa s DirectFB help)

2004-01-13 Thread Gray, Tim
th etv out resolution is 720x480 in the united states and japan + the
vertical blanking lines that you dont see.

no matter what you set the card to, 640x480 or 800x600 you will get the
720x480 standard NTSC size out the tv out.

This is the same for any TV out. it only outputs either a NTSC standard
signal or a PAL standard signal.

Does anyone here know what the output resolution is on the AIW card? I plan
on using the s-video out on the card. I am still fighting with a Gentoo
install (first time I ever tried to use Gentoo) but once its working I plan
on installing Freevo and making it a dedicated recorder.

PS - I ended up picking up a KT4VM board with a Athlon 2400+ for the MB.

[Freevo-users] Jump to active/detached Player

2004-01-13 Thread Frederik
Hi All!

Is there any chance to directly jump to the active/detached Player!

Reason being. I am using Freevo mainly with a remote control and sometimes
without TV.
So my problem is when I have detached e.g. the audio player and just want to
pause the music I don't want switch on the TV to check how to go to the
detached player. I just want to press pause (or one button before) to pause
the song!

Cheers

[Freevo-users] recording daemon py??

2004-01-13 Thread Bikr

Hello..

I've been trying to get freevo 100% setup for some
time now. I finally got it working with my 36" VGA monitor. The
monitor only runs 640 x 480 , the guide is still a little off centered but
everything else is good now , just can't see the channel numbers
etc...

I am having trouble following the docs on recording
though.. I have setup freevo , and it works , I goto the guide and hit f6
on a program , it tells me that it is scheduled to be recorded , and the
webfront says that it is recording it , however , it never gets recorded..
I have my record directory set to /media/tv and nothing
ever shows up , It freely lets me pick other channels even though it shouldn't
so that it can record etc..

The docs all mention entering a cron to run
recorddaemon.py or something but that file doesn't exist in my
/src/tv directory.. Is this a new thing some new way of doing it , I
have the recordserver running constantly as well using
/usr/local/freevo/freevo recordserver and i verify that it's running by
issuing /usr/local/freevo/freevo recordserver and it responds with
"already running" etc..

If you have any ideas on how to get this working
correctly please let me know , as I'm in dire straights haha..

2004-01-13 Thread Rob Shortt
Hi,

record_daemon which used to be run from cron is depricated, as are the
docs you are reading (which should be updated). It sounds as if your
recordserver is running so please look into the logs to see what is
happening, it is most likely that your VCR_CMD is failing. You should
find your logs in /var/log/freevo/ or /tmp/freevo/ if that doesn't exist.

This past wait message indicates that the recording command exited.
This is still at 11:30 so something is wrong with your VCR_CMD. Try to
run it on your command line:

/usr/bin/mencoder -tv
on:driver=v4l:input=0:norm=NTSC:channel=58:chanlist=us-cable:width=320:height=240:outfmt=yv12:
device=/dev/video0:adevice=/dev/dsp:audiorate=32000:forceaudio:forcechan=1:buffersize=64

-lameopts br=128:cbr:mode=3 -ffourcc divx -endpos 1789 -o
/media/tv/01-13_11:30_Real_TV_-_.avi

With fixed line wrapping of course.

I am willing to bet your mencoder command is new enough to need tv://
-tv instead of -tv on: so try removing the on: and adding tv://

As far as I can tell, the web front merely looks at the schedule to see if
it's recording - it doesn't actually check to see if it's actually being
recorded.

The error you're seeing below is the same one I had when my mencoder
command was incorrect.

If I was you, I'd take the mencoder command as it shows up in the log and
try to run it manually from the command line. Fix the errors that show up
until you do get a clean recording; then, make the appropriate changes in
local_conf.py.

[Freevo-users] freevo epia-V xine problem

2004-01-13 Thread Jaap Struyk
Hello,

I'am running freevo on my epia-V1000 for a few weeks now with ups and
downs.
whatever I do I can't play dvd's smoothly (xine) and recording with
mencoder/libavcodec_mpeg4 is imposible (99% cpu and 17fps).
I know this isn't freevo related, but maybe there's another epia-V user
who can help me, I'am really stuck.
I'am using LFS-5.0, kernel-2.4.23-epia1+xfs, 512Mb. ram, latest xine and
mplayer/mencoder and the kernels bttv driver card=24

I had the same problem. Change the options line after -tv. Take out the

should clear it up.

A Debian apt source is available and includes all the dependencies you'll
need.
You should add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:

Re: [Freevo-users] recording..

2004-01-13 Thread Bikr
Ok , Now , new problem , recordings are starting , and when I grab the .avi
files , they are just static and the green screen that my video always shows
when there is no signal to it , however , there should be good signal , does
freevo need to be running , the front end I mean , for it to record actual
video , or did I maybe miss a step?

RE: [Freevo-users] recording..

2004-01-13 Thread Dave Smylie
Have a look at the command line freevo is using to kick off the
recording. Sounds like you're not specifying :input=# or something
similar on your command line. If you're using mencoder to record, its
completely separate from freevo - ie, freevo shouldn't need to be
running.

What I found easiest, was to take freevo's command line, and play with
it until it recorded fine, then take those changes and make them to
VCR_CMD in local_config.py

Cheers
Dave Smylie

Re: [Freevo-users] recording..

2004-01-13 Thread Bikr
I also just tried with input 1 instead of 0 input 1 gives me blue screen ,
as it appears to be the rca in on the card. . 0 I'm sure is probably the
correct one , but for some reason , it's not getting the signal from the
card , could it be tuning in to the wrong frequency for the channels? I
tried a few channels and none of them seem to work .. --Josh
