Re: [Freevo-users] urls with questiomarks in webradio.fxd

2005-03-07 Thread Paul Sijben
To make a long story short. I used .pls files to identify the live365
stations I want to listen to, as I could not get the urls in
webradio.fxd to work... (oh yeah and activated the fxmms plugin to play
them as mplayer is not compatible with this broadcaster...)

[Freevo-users] Videolan-client for web radio

2005-03-07 Thread Jesper Skelmose Mathiassen
I've recently become very interested in listening to aacPlus radio
channels (Alot can be seen fromhttp:// www.tuner2.com ). AacPlus
delivers vastly improved soundquality/bitrate compared to ordinary mp3,
and support streaming 5.1 surround sound. however it uses a modified
shoutcast stream, which can only be interpreted correctly by
videolan-client..
Is there any way of overiding the player for web radio alone, and maybe
even just for individual stations?

Re: [Freevo-users] Newbe - Which soundcard should I buy???

2005-03-07 Thread John Molohan
Hello Sebastian,
you might get an opinion or two here but you're probably far better
asking your question on the alsa mailing list I'd guess (freevo uses
standard players like mplayer or xine so it's a general linux
compatibility issue not a freevo one).

For what it's worth I've used both Soundblaster Live! 5.1 and the

hardware mixing and good support for 6 channel audio using ALSA
drivers.

Depends what you want, though. Neither of those cards will allow a
44.1khz PCM bitstream to traverse it's SPDIF circuit unmolested.

My Freevo system is six inches from a DTS capable receiver, so SPDIF is
what i want. I bought an Audigy hoping to get there and that ended up being
a $50 mistake.

Noticed an undocumented SPDIF header on my motherboard. Plugged in a
dongle that matched it, it works - but only at 48khz.

Bought a cheap Yamaha based card with on-card optical output. Same
thing.

On a lark, plugged in my old DXR3, works perfectly for coaxial spdif
44.1 and 48, pcm, ac3, dts, all work.

But at this point, I'm using a 2U rack mount case and can use only 1 agp
slot and 1 pci slot, and i want to keep the pci slot open for an HD tuner
some time this summer.

I ended up buying a new motherboard that has SPDIF on the backplate
(A7V880) and hope that it will be able to deliver multiple rates of SPDIF.
I get to figure that out this week.

Re: [Freevo-users] Playing Shoutcast/Icecast Streams

Can anyone help me out with this?

ps: I don't want to run a icecast server.

I added the following line to my AUDIO_ITEMS section ;

('WebRadio', '/home/freevo/fxd/webradio.fxd'),

Location of the fxd file is wherever you want, but the fxd file contains
the info for each radiostation. Like so;

...

freevo
  container title=Web Radio type=webradio
container title=Non-WAIX AU Radio

  audio title=NOVA 93.7FM
urlmms://38.112.16.114/nova937/url

  audio title=Triple JJJ asx
urlmms://38.112.16.114/nova937/url
cover-imgjjj.jpg/cover-img
  /audio

  audio title=96FM
urlhttp://203.30.47.38/96fm/url
  /audio

/container
  /container
/freevo

.

Each station with minimal info above is separated by a CR. As you can
see there are many types of stream that can be used. Be aware that with
many webradio links you get on the internet, you will have to open up
the linked file in a text editor and look for the actual stream link
(asx or rm).

The only problem I appear to have with this system is forcing the
webradio audio to use my digital out hwplug from my soundcard, whereas
all my other movies and music use digital flawlessly. (*shrug*)
