[Freevo-users] PVR350 / Fedora Core 1 / Framebuffer

2005-03-21 Thread Louis King

Hello,

I'm currently using
a Hauppauge PVR350 on Fedora Core 1. I am using Freevo 1.5.3 and have managed to
get most things I require working... i.e. X on Framebuffer, Audio, Web Radio
etc.

My problem lies when
trying to watch live TV or watch a video. It is neccesary to use "ivtvfbctl
--nolocalalpha --globalalpha" or "ivtvfbctl --localalpha --noglobalalpha" to
switch between X and MPlayer's Framebuffer output.

Now, there are
config settings...OSD_SDL_EXEC_AFTER_STARTUP = ""OSD_SDL_EXEC_AFTER_CLOSE = ""
I've created Bash scripts to run the relevant "ivtvfbctl" command, but nothing seems to happen. When I select a Video item or TV, the Freevo interface closes and leaves me with my X desktop, but the Movie does not appear.
However, the video is playing as the Freevo interfaces remains hidden for the exact duration of the video and then reappears. Also, if I manually type the "ivtvfbctl" commands into a terminal, I can get the video to appear.
Now, apart from this one complication, I have impressed my housemates and other friends and colleagues with Freevo as it is such an excellent product. I've used my Freevo project as an introduction to Linux.
Please can anyone help?Cheers,Louis KingFreemote Developerhttp://freemote.sf.net[EMAIL PROTECTED]

[Freevo-users] Running Freevo automatically as NON-Root

2005-03-21 Thread Ow Mun Heng
Hi All,

currently this machine (EPIA-M10K) is being used as a standalone box
running Freevo on Gentoo.

I've made it such that /etc/init.d/local will start freevo during
bootup, as in the settings below.

Now, I noticed that it's running as root and I don't quite like that. I
need some pointers on how to get Freevo to auto-downgrade itself to a
normal user.

Can it be done? I most certainly think it could, only question is, can
someone teach me how?

# no: don't start Freevo
# yes:start Freevo on startup. You should only use this when the
# computer is for Freevo only or you use Freevo with a DXR3
# daemon: start Freevo in daemon mode. The daemon will wait for you to
# press QUIT or POWER on your remote and will than start
# Freevo. After Freevo shut down, the daemon will wait again.
#
# You don't need a X server running to start Freevo from init. If
# needed, Freevo will start a X server on its own. Make sure your X
# server can handle the resolution defined in /etc/freevo/freevo.conf

freevo=yes

Try putting 'su - $username -c' before your 'freevo -fs' line.
