[Freevo-users] Hints on using DVB-T

2005-08-10 Thread tobe
Hi,

i recently had to switch to DVB-T. I managed to get my Hauppauge Nova-T
working with Xine. Watching TV there is no problem, so next step is freevo
integration. I searched the web for tips but found nothing. So i'm asking
you for some tips or links on the following:

- What has to be included in my TV_CHANNELS

- Can i use the EPG data from the DVB stream? Or should I use something like
NextEPG? tv_grab_** is not available in germany.

Regards,
ToBe

I struggled with DVB integration. I ended up using the vdr-xine
plugins to get vdr to do the dvb stuff as an extension of freevo.
However, CVS versions of freevo seem to have really good dvb
integration.

Either check out cvs and see what it does for you (I think its not
ready yet, but i'm not sure whats missing), or use the vdr-xine
plugin, or, search the list on dvb, there's been plenty of posts on
the topic in the past..

Re: [Freevo-users] Hints on using DVB-T

2005-08-10 Thread Tanja Striepling

Hi there,

we are using dvb-t for almost a year now, and it is working
great. so maybe I can give you a few useful hints.

As you managed to watch TV with xine, the difficult part is already done.
That means you have a valid channel.conf in .xine (.mplayer).

For freevo integration:
1.) Put the following in your local_conf.py
VIDEO_GROUPS[0].group_type = 'dvb'

2.)TV_CHANNELS is not really different from analog TV, I guess.
Something like:
TV_CHANNELS = [
( 'ard.de', 'ARD', 'ARD' ),
( 'zdf.de', 'ZDF', 'ZDF' ),
( 'wdr.de','WDR','WDR')]

3.)EPG:
Unfortunately there is no programm for fetching the dvb-epg.
And with a budget dvb-card without mpeg-decoder you can not
use next-epg, as far as I know. (Please tell me, if that is not right anymore!)
But tv_grab_de_tvtoday is working!
You must use the cvs version, because tvtoday changed there interface a week or
so ago, so that the older grabber is not working anymore.

4.) Recording:
We are just dumping the dvb-stream to disk without any reencoding,
because our hardware is not very fast, but we have lots of disc-space.
We watch most of the recordings soon after the recording, and delete them
afterwards.
Our recording command is:
VCR_CMD = CONF.mplayer + ' -dumpstream -dumpfile %(filename)s
dvb://%(channel)s'
TV_RECORDFILE_SUFFIX = '.ts' recording command is:
Files are around 1GB for 1 hour recording.
NOTE: You will need to copy your channel.conf to .mplayer for this to work.

5.) Watching recorded shows:
You must add 'ts' to the list of filename suffixes that should be played with
xine/mplayer:
VIDEO_XINE_SUFFIX = [ 'ts','avi','vob','mpg','mpeg','rm', 'divx', 'ogm']

Greetings
Tanja

[Freevo-users] Audio selection

2005-08-10 Thread Esmont Alexander
Hello,

  I have two dvd disk:
  - 5 element
  - i,robot
Each of them have it's own set of audio tracks
  - 5 element (ru - ac3(normal), ru - dts(normal), en - ac3(normal))
  - i,robot (en - ac3(normal), de - ac3(normal), de - dts(normal),
 en - ac3(2 channel comments1), en - ac3(2 channel
 comments2), en - ac3(2 channel comments3))

  I set DVD_LANG_PREF = 'ru,en,de' in local_conf.py

When I load any of this disks in dvd drive and start playing from
freevo menu without any changes (from any chapter) all work fine.

BUT if first I change in Audio selection audio track and after
that start from any chapter I lost all sound track!

I made some little detection of problem and found it:
  1) if I choose any audio track freevo add in command line of mplayer
parameter '-aid n'(where 'n' is a number of audio track i listing
 order);
  2) if start up mplayer standalone with command line
# mplayer dvd://1 -chapter 2 -ao alsa -v test.log
then in test.log I found strings with right aid parameters!
In my case it must be
 - 5 element: 128 for ru - ac3(normal)
  137 for ru - dts(normal)
  130 for en - ac3(normal)
 - i,robot: 128 for en - ac3(normal)
129 for de - ac3(normal)
138 for de - dts(normal)
131 for en - ac3(2 channel comments1)
132 for en - ac3(2 channel comments2)
133 for en - ac3(2 channel comments3)
(audio track with remark 'comments' - is a actors comment track
 for movie)
  3) if this aid number was substitute in command line of mplayer all
 work fine.

Can you test this features and tell what changes must be done for
  right audio selection?

PS Sorry for bad english - it's not my native language!

[Freevo-users] EPG and DVB-T

2005-08-10 Thread tobe
Hi again,

ok some questions regarding EPG data remain. As I said, i am using a
Hauppauge Nova-T DVB-T card. Xine is working and showing my TV channels. So
I recently heard (Thanks Tanja ;) ) that EPG is not available with budget
dvb-t cards.
I am getting EPG data with windows, so there should be a way to get them.
Maybe with another software? I could even code something myself, but i'm not
very proficient with linux device drivers. Any further tips here?

Second alternative was the new tv_grab_de_tvtoday. With the old version,
some months ago, i had the problem, that a scan over 3 days and about 15
channels took me about 2 hours. Is that the usual time?
And I was unable to find a compiled version of the new grabber. I don't know
about compiling these grabbers (the CVS i found contained only a
tv_grab_de_tvtoday.in file?) Any links here?

My third alternative would have been NextEPG. Complete EPG data is sent over
some hidden pages inside VideoText wich I can use under windows. Has anyone
tried something in this direction?

Thanks again,
ToBe

yes, the time for the scan is in the normal range (at least on my system
it also takes at least one hour). tv_grab_de_tvtoday is written in perl,
so no need to compile. ;)

My third alternative would have been NextEPG. Complete EPG data is sent over

scaning with NextEPG takes also some time. I guess it is not much faster
than tv_grab. But you don't need a working internet connection, so this
might be the better option if you have an analog tv card.

Cheers,

Steph.

[Freevo-users] xmltv config for satellites

2005-08-10 Thread Ricardo Kleemann
Hi,

If I have my card hooked up to a satellite (say DISH or DIRECTV), how do I
configure xmltv for that?

Also, can I hook up a VCR output to the card and then use freevo to capture
and record that output? I would simply watch tv, but then how do I record
the content?

Thanks
Ricardo

[Freevo-users] watch live tv?

2005-08-10 Thread Ricardo Kleemann

Hi,

I thought that watch tv also allowed me to watch live tv, or whatever is
being captured by the card.

However, when I click on watch tv I just get a screen that says No
recordings are scheduled.

Also, I have a question on XMLTV. I've run the tv_grab_dd to grab the
listings, but how do I tie that in with freevo? Do I create a file and where
do I save that file (is there a global location where the xmltv listings
file needs to be)?

Thanks
Ricardo
