We will be able to do a lot of this in Freevo2, but unfortunately are
stuck (due to evas) with the following limitations:

 1. No 3D transformations (seen when the cover arts are moving and
turning about)
 2. No 2D shearing (cover art reflection effect)
 3. No sub-pixel precision (Ken Burns effect during the photo/music
slideshow)
 4. No alpha masks (doesn't seem to be used in the iTV demo, but
Media Center uses it)

Fortunately we can do a lot with what we do have. And at least #4 can
be faked in some cases.

 I know I have, because I tried 1.7rc1 a while ago.

Why do you think they can't both be installed? They can without any problem.

This is with Mandriva btw, and not installed with rpm.

because of a conflict between kaa-metadata and mmpython. It seems the
dependency for mmpython hasn't been removed from the freevo package.

 Can anyone confirm this?

Hi, I'm the packager for the Fedora Core Yum repository on SourceForge.
No, kaa-metadata is not used by Freevo-1.6.2. I've added those packages
in anticipation of the 1.7 release. I have not released any 1.7-rcX
snapshots at this point, due to work and other commitments, as well as
the fact that packaging it is a bit tricky due to the version numbering
 scheme (SPEC file issues).

 So in short,
 Freevo 1.6.2, mmpython only
 Freevo 1.7 (future), kaa-metadata only

You can't mix them, because the python classes have different names.
You can't install mmpython and kaa-metadata at the same time, because
the executable mminfo exists in both packages.

If you've accidentally upgraded to kaa-metadata and is still running
Freevo 1.6.2 , then you will need to remove kaa-metadata and reinstall
 mmpython.

[Freevo-users] H.264/AAC mp4 File

2007-01-31 Thread Dirk Meyer
Hi,

a bit off-topic, but maybe someone can help. I want to create a mp4
file with H.264 and AAC on-the-fly. The source is a MPEG TS (DVB). I
want a file that can be streamed using http while it is generated. The
target player is quicktime. Can someone help me?

It is not Freevo related right now, but creating H.264 files from
recordings is on my TODO list and if I solve this problem I may get
some time at work to develop in this direction for freevo. I don't
care if I use vlc, gstreamer, mencoder or something else.

Re: [Freevo-users] H.264/AAC mp4 File

2007-01-31 Thread Justin Wetherell

I believe the iPod Video aspect of the encoding server uses mencoder to
convert from avi to H.264/AAC because I believe that's the format an iPod
video must be to work on an iPod Video device. I am not 100% sure but I
believe that's true.

I'm sure your correct but it's not exactly on-the-fly. A hardware
solution is the only thing I can think of. If anybody can do it is vlc
as they develop the x264 encoder.

  Has anyone had any success??

I gave up on it and re-wrote mplayer.py to use the streamdev-server
 interface.

I got a uber cutdown version of the vdr plugin working last night.
I think I can get tvtime and xine working in the plugin again. Until
freevo can do stuff like pause live tv and force a channel switch
while I'm wathcing TV to force a recording to start; I think vdr or
something similar is the way to go..

So, Once I've cleaned up the code I'll submit a patch to devel.
Hopefully tonight sometime.

What you can do:
Use xine to view and control vdr.
Maybe use tvtime to view and control vdr (but I can't get tvtime to
work with dvb?? any pointers??

What you can't do:
vsdrp support has been removed. This really not needed for the two
scenario's above. It would be needed to have freevo control vdr for
things like recordings. But the svdrpylib stuff seems to have died
over the last year or so.

Coolio!

Mike
This is in my TV section:

 ('west.bbc1.bbc.co.uk', 'BBC 1', '1',0,3),

 Which sends channel 1 to mplayer.py with dvb_box 3 (which doesn't
exist). If mplayer.py finds this it executes

 mplayer (normal_freevo_arguemnts) http://vdrserver:3000/CHANNELNUMBER.

I wrote a record script which essentially does the same thing with mencoder.

So for us to do 3D we would need to create GL objects in X, paint them

Just dreaming and trying to understand where the restrictions lie..
