[Freevo-users] Comment on new install
I'd like to make constructive comment on a new install. While I know perfectly well how to make freevo run, it's very instructive to start on a bare install and see how far the configuration help system has advanced. First Freevo loads a file called 'freevo.conf'. This file will be generated by calling 'freevo setup'. perhaps we should be clearer and suggest that this is run now. It's in the middle of the paragraph and isn't staring anyone in the face Use 'freevo setup --help' to get information about the parameter. Based on the information in that file [which file??] , Freevo will guess some settings for your system. This takes place in a file called 'freevo_config.py'. not the next step. The next step is to locate the freevo.conf that freevo setup wrote and edit the wrong choices it made - the channel list and the ntsc / pal choice. Since this file may change from time to time, you should not edit this file. After freevo_config.py is loaded, Freevo will look for a file called 'local_conf.py'. You can overwrite the variables from 'freevo_config.py' in here. There is an example for 'local_conf.py' called 'local_conf.py.example' in the Freevo distribution. now all i have is a directory ~/.freevo with one entry - freevo.conf actually i have to locate freevo_config.py, save as ~/.freevo/local_conf.py and then make edits If you need more help, use the internal webserver to get more information how to setup Freevo. [Freevo-users] Multiple lirc devices: Streamzap and Antec Fusion Imon Knob
Hi all, i'm using freevo on gentoo from portage 1.7.6. Everything works, but i was trying to use two different lirc device. One is a Streamzap USB, recognized as /dev/lirc0 and perfectly working The other device is the volume knob of the Antec Fusion case, recognized ad /dev/lirc1, working correctly (tested with irw, the knoib sends thetrwo events WheelCC and WheelCW. I don't know if the problem is freevo that only watch at the first lirc device, or pylirc that only uses one device (the streamzap device). Re: [Freevo-users] Question about the new ivtv_xine plugin
Sorry for this late answer, but I really tried long to set my freevo box to work again as non root :-( It's really a pity to have to run freevo as root, I have the feeling to have a Winbox... Anyway : David Frager a écrit : I had the same problem, and as given the following suggestion. I have not had a chance to try it out yet. Under TV_IVTV_OPTIONS the three settings you're looking for are: 'bitrate' : 780, 'bitrate_peak' : 960, 'stream_type' : 10, Have a look at the ivtv driver documentation for more info. Thanks for the imput, but due to the WAF, I have to let the bitrate high :-) What version of the xine-ui are you working with? 0.99.6 You indicated that when you press record, the record starts. Does the record start at the time you press record or at the time you started watch TV? You are right, the record start at the begining at the show, not at the moment you press the record key. But I must admit that this is good for me : Most time, if I depress the record key, it's allready too late ! Currently, I am using 0.99.6 that I built from CVS several months ago. If I start watch TV and wait a period of time prior to pressing record, my VOB file ends up containing everyhing from the time I started watch TV. I did continue my tests : If I cat the files one after the other, I obtain a usable record file ... But this is way too long ! So I tried anither approach : I built a fxd file (You can see that I started from the sample on the WiKi ! ) : cat 2008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or.fxd ?xml version=1.0 ? freevo movie title=Une Famille en Or - Jeudi 14 Août 2008 video file id=f12008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0001.vob/file file id=f22008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0002.vob/file file id=f32008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0003.vob/file file id=f42008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0004.vob/file file id=f52008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0005.vob/file file id=f62008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0006.vob/file file id=f72008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0007.vob/file file id=f82008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0008.vob/file file id=f92008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0009.vob/file file id=f102008-08-14_jeudi_19-05_Une_famille_en_or_0010.vob/file /video info rating/rating plotThe satiric adventures of a working class family in the misfit city of Springfield/plot taglineOn Your Marks, Get Set, D'Oh!/tagline year1989/year genreAnimation / Comedy/genre /info /movie /freevo This works fairly good, except that there is a time (around 1 or 2 second at each file change. I don't know if the problem is freevo that only watch at the first lirc device, or pylirc that only uses one device (the streamzap device). I don't think that this is the problem. freevo nor pylirc care about devices, lirc uses a daemon and clients connect to the daemon not devices. An a thank you to everyone who has provided feedback on the doodle poll. A special thanks to: Gorka for his work with mplayervis and alpha blending between menus. José for his work with rtve.es plug-in and FilmAffinity plug-in and more. Torsten for his speak plug-in. Adam for updates to livepause. Valera for lots of bug reports and fixes. Now that the kaa.notifier code has proven to be reliable this will be the last release of the 1.7 series. We will now start to concentrate on updating the plug-ins to remove the code that polls for events from the main loop. The effect of the all this polling is that the user interface is much less responsive than it should be and the CPU load is higher than it should be. What's new in 1.8.2 * New speak plug-in * New mplayer visualization plug-in for audio * New video plug-in for streaming programs from rtve.es * Updated livepause for graphic OSD for vlc * Updated OSD for alpha blending between screen updates * Updated mplayer TV and video plug-ins to correct MPLAYER_VO_DEV_OPTS handling * Updated mplayervis plug-in to be able to set the frame rate What's new in 1.7.9, these are also in 1.8.2 * New mouse support for Freevo * New TV plug-in to browse by genre * New video Spanish information grabber, FilmAffinity for movies * New video plug-in, fillscreen, to crop, scale and change monitor aspect for video items * Updated freeboxtv to be in the TV plug-ins * Updated mplayer audio plug-in to show a pop-up when caching * Updated mplayer to handle subtitle and audio cycling using the SUBTITLE and LANG events * Updated recordings manager to improve its performance There is a lot of additional fixes from lots of people and the full list is available at http://doc.freevo.org/ChangeLog. Finally the release statistics: Release 1.7.8 to 1.7.9 there are 7 new items and 87 changes. Release 1.8.1 to 1.8.2 there are 19 new items and 167 changes.
