[Freevo-users] Something's swallowing my remote's commands
Hi all, I've been playing around with dvbstreamer trying to get livepause set up - it all seems to be working fine apart from that once the stream is playing (in either mplayer or xine) my remote doesn't have much effect. I can pause the stream (:D) but that's the only remote related thing that seems to work - eg I can't exit back to the EPG. Anyone know what's causing this? Yeah I did the same just recently - went very smoothly :) There's an ebuild on the bugtracker if you haven't found it already. I found it, and it seemed to work fine. Except that when I started freevo, it crashed because it required kaa-base-0.4.0, while I only had 0.3.0 (latest version in portage. The ebuild only required 0.2.0). Fixed that, and it's now installed and seemingly running fine, except that whenever I try running freevo plugins -l it first starts out with a section about how my local_conf.py is version 5.22 and that there has been changes since then. I tried running freevo convert_config /etc/freevo/local_conf.py -w, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I guess I can do the changes by hand, but I was wondering why the script isn't working... anyone? Yeah I've noticed that... I think it's because config options have been added or removed (not renamed) and so nothing gets outputted. Changing the version number up to the latest should stop the warning. Machine specific stuff in /etc/freevo/local_conf.py Common stuff in an NFS shared /home/freevo/.freevo/local_conf.py. Does one override options set in the other, and if so, which 'wins' in the end? I could do that ... but in that case I will not write any code for Freevo or kaa for a long time. I would prefer for other people to write some docs. So take kaa.notifier and write some docstrings. Jason and I will correct errors before checking it in and if you add a doc to 5 out of 7 functions because you do not understand the other two, we will add the doc. I only do not want to spend too much time writing docs. If you have a question, ask. :) I started epydoc for Freevo 2.0. Run 'epydoc -v --config=doc/epydoc' in the freevo ui subdir _after_ you installed Freevo 2.0. I've just had a look at Entertainer's web site (www.entertainer-project.com another python/clutter based media center) and the first thing that impressed me was not their UI but the fact that they had UML design documents (sad I know). But this did make me think that they had taken the time to think about what they wanted and get it down in a form that other people can see and understand. Could we just auto-generate UML diagrams from the current code base using something like PyNSource (http://www.atug.com/andypatterns/pynsource.htm) and maybe add them to a developers page on the wiki? Not sure how much work it'd be to get the whole freevo/kaa source processed but it's gotta be a heck of a lot quicker than getting Dischi/Jason/Duncan to hand document/UML it, especially when it's subject to change. Obviously these diagrams would be a good place to start and if people still have questions after looking at them all they gotta do is ask as the man said :) Andrew - Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. When I click on the freevo icon nothing happen. First try starting it from the command line instead and see if it shows any errors. If it doesn't try looking at the files in /var/log/freevo, they might give you a hint :) It would be very kind of you, if you could help me to solve this problem. You get a couple of warnings on the screen that a recording will be made, and the tv picture gets cut off. Try it and see. It's the upsoon plugin that does it, not sure if it's enabled by default but it should do what you want. I'm not sure what that's affecting exactly but I also can't pause live tv (hitting the space bar has worked previously, but it's not working at the moment for some reason) and wondered if it's correlated? This probably means that you've either seeked to the end of the buffer (ie your now watching almost live TV) or you have had some signal quality issues which has meant Xine has read more of the buffer than should normally happen. The log messages are just an indication that live_pause couldn't read any bytes from the buffer, once the starved_count gets to 5 it will pause for 2 seconds to refill the buffer. These log messages aren't really anything to worry about. As for pause not working, I have you left the channel paused for a long time say enough for the buffer to completely fill up? If so you won't be able to pause as you have no where to put the new data. Try seeking forward a bit and then try pausing. Not sure why though as we have a stand-alone digital/HD receiver which works perfectly all the time... maybe it's the drivers/firmware for the tuner card.
