[Freevo-users] Recording TV - No sound

Not sure if this is your problem, but when I was debugging sound on my
system using an "mencoder" command string, I kept leaving off the
"chanlist=" option in the hope of keeping things simple ... after hours of
trying, I finally figured out that when I added that option back in, sound
worked again. [in my case it was "chanlist=us-cable" IIRC].

to figure out the mixer settings I also found it helpful to run Freevo in a
window rather than fullscreen, run a graphical mixer in another window, and
watch the settings on the mixer to see what freevo does when it starts up.
It turned out Freevo was muting my mic, and aumix solved it as per other
posts to this list.
cheers,
Mary

[Freevo-users] tvtime starting with invalid options

2005-01-19 Thread Mary Strimel
I am trying to set up freevo to use tvtime; however, it is not calling
tvtime correctly. (yes, I have run freevo configure)

according to the logs, freevo is starting tvtime with an option of "-D
Xv". If i try to run tvtime from the command line with this option, it
fails, and the tvtime reference makes no mention of any option called
"-D".
Why is freevo adding this option, and how can I get it to stop? at a
command prompt, the tvtime string works just fine if I omit the unwanted
-D part.
thanks
Mary

[Freevo-users] small setup questions

2004-10-12 Thread Mary Strimel
Freevo is great; all my friends who see it ask, "how can I get this?'

I do have a few remaining (minor) issues with my setup that i can't seem
to solve:

1. automating "freevo tv_grab." Freevo does not start unless I am "in"
the /usr/local/freevo directory, same deal with freevo tv_grab. Thus I
wrote a little script, "cd /usr/local/freevo; ./freevo tv_grab" which I
can run manually to grab listings, but it will not work properly from
cron to save my life. I checked that cron is trying the script as a
normal user, also tried it as root which doesn't work either [I used
webmin to set this up] but cron does not seem to have an option to run a
command "from" somewhere (I even read the manpage)! cron gives the same
output as if i had tried to start freevo from the wrong directory:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in ?

if it matters, I am running freevo ver. 1.5 on mandrake 9.2 for amd64.

2. I am not understanding how control of sound should work. freevo
insisted on muting my mic (how I get tv sound thru patch cable). I
would have thought setting "freevo control all audio = 1", VCR Vol= 90,
default vol. = 90, TV_IN VOL = 90 in local.conf.py would have stopped
the muting issue, but it does not. The only thing that worked was
CONTROL_ALL_AUDIO   = 0 and MAJOR_AUDIO_CTRL= 'MIC', this at least
stops the muting but i still have to get off my duff and turn my speaker
knob to *adjust* the volume; how can I fix it so I can have freevo take
control of main system volume, adjustible from keyboard, and set mic to
a specific value other than zero and stay there?

3. when entering and leaving tvtime, the window gets non-fullscreen for
a few seconds (showing the desktop underneath) before resuming
fullscreen. Not a huge deal but a concern to my roommate who always
thinks she is 'breaking" something and will be a freevo addict if we can
fix this along with 1 and 2.

thanks everyone for your great work!

Mary

[Freevo-users] webradio question - radio paradise

2004-09-28 Thread Mary Strimel
I have installed the sample fxd file for webradio and it works great.
Now i want to add my own favorite station, radio paradise, and I tried
to follow the format in the fxd file but it doesn't work.

When I run "mplayer -playlist
http://www.radioparadise.com/musiclinks/rp_128.m3u, from the cmmand
line, it fails with:

Playing http://64.236.34.4:80/stream/2001.
Connecting to server 64.236.34.4[64.236.34.4]:80 ...
Error: ICY-Server couldn't find requested stream, skipping!
Unable to open URL: http://64.236.34.4:80/stream/2001

I've checked the Radio Paradise site and mplayer list but found no
suggestions, so I'm writing to the experts!
Thanks,
Mary

[Freevo-users] tv audio question

2004-09-06 Thread Mary Strimel
Title: Message

Hi,
whenever freevo
starts, it mutes the "mic" on my sound card, causing tv to play in silence (I'm
using the patch cable for audio from the tv card).  If I run freevo as
root, I can adjust the mixer and get sound, but this is a
pain.
I've tried fooling
with the "mplayer" command but no luck, it's way to complicated for me; I also
activated the "ossmixer" plugin as some have suggested but I am unsure what to
do next.   The easiest solution for me would be simply to stop freevo
muting that channel, since it's only used for watching tv.
any
suggestions?  I'm using freevo ver. 1.5.0, and have OSS sound
drivers.
thanks,Mary

How do I unmute "capture"? [P.S., when using mplayer through the sound card,
turning "mic" all the way up in aumix allows me to hear sound thru patch cable,
so I assume that means I should start my mencoder string with "aumix -m 100 -m R

different levels for igain and using "line" rather than "mic" but that gives no

2004-04-29 Thread Mary Strimel
Hi again,
sorry to be a bother, I'm feeling a bit stupid that I cant seem to get
sound on my tv recording, after studying the wiki and trying to follow
it very carefully:

btaudio will just not work for me, the driver loads correctly but
mencoder crashes when I try to use it.

attempting the OSS / line in method, I plugged my patch cable in and
tried:

aumix -1 80 -1 R -i 1; mencoder -tv

[Freevo-users] tvmixer for sound recording

2004-04-27 Thread Mary Strimel
Title: Message

Thanks Paul.

can you send your
VCR_CMD for reference? mencoder freezes on me when I
do:
mencoder -tv
on:driver-v4l:input=0:norm=NTSC:channel=2:width=320:height=240:device=dev/video0:adevice=/dev/dsp2:vbitrate=1200
-oac mp3lame -lameopts br=128:cbr:mode=3 --ffourcc divx -o
/home/mary/test.avi

If I take out the
audio device from the above, it will record video but no sound. btaudio
loaded fine.

my "aumix -d
/dev/mixer1 -q" gives
line1 0, 0,
P
line2 0, 0,
R
line3 0, 0,

Is this
bad?

dmesg
reports btaudio on /dev/dsp2 for digital, dev/dsp3 for analog, and
mixer1.

not sure what to try
next ... I'm so close, any help is appreciated!

Re: [Freevo-users] tvmixer for sound recording

2004-04-21 Thread Mary Strimel
Hi again,
1. yes, I'm pretty sure the card is capable because after I loaded btaudio,
dmesg showed it registered and happy per the wiki.
2. yes, there is a Makefile in the directory with tvmixer.c, but when I run
"make" it sends back "/Rules.make: no such file or directory. No rule to
make target './Rules.make'"

It sounds like I need to compile this tvmixer thing myself, but don't know
how exactly ... What are the magic words? :) I've learned a lot in this
whole freevo process, but still a novice about compiling modules ...
thanks in advance,
Mary

Is there a Makefile file in the mentioned directory? If modprobe
doesn't find it, it wasn't copied across the you ran make install, or if
running 2.6, was't made at all..

[Freevo-users] tvmixer for sound recording

2004-04-20 Thread Mary Strimel

hi,
I have mandrake 9.2 for amd64.  after some
effort I'm finally able to record video, now working on the sound
...
after reading the wiki I loaded bttvaudio
successfully by typing "modprobe btaudio."  now I need to load the tvmixer
module.  there is a file called  tvmixer.c located in
/usr/src/linux-2.4.22-25/mdk/drivers/media/video ... but when I do "modprobe
tvmixer" it reports "module not found."
thanks in advance for
any suggestions.

[Freevo-users] Re: xmltv install problems - update

2004-04-13 Thread Mary Strimel
After more work, when trying to install xmltv from source I get a
message that I need a module called "HTML::Parser". Trying to compile
said module I get:

Error: Unable to locate installed Perl libraries or Perl source code. It
is recommended that you install perl in a standard location before
building extensions. Some precompiled versions of perl do not contain
these header files, so you cannot build extensions. In such a case,
please build and install your perl from a fresh perl distribution. It
usually solves this kind of problem. (You get this message, because
MakeMaker could not find
"/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.1/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/CORE/perl.h")

I have installed perl-5.8.1-0.RC4.3mdk from my system disks ... If I try
to change or update that at all, I get many dependency errors and I'm
sure to break something ... what is missing here?
Thanks,
Mary

[Freevo-users] xmltv install problems

2004-04-13 Thread Mary Strimel
Hi,
afer much wrangling I have (I think) installed xmltv_0.5.31-1 on my
Mandrake 9.2 AMD4 machine

when I try to run tv_grab_na, I get the following error:
Base class package "HTML::Parser" is empty.
(Perhaps you need to 'use' the module which defines that package
first.) at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1/XMLTV/ZapListings.pm line 12
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1/XMLTV/ZapListings.pm line 12.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/bin/tv_grab_na line 512.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/tv_grab_na line 512.

(I got the package from "Thac's RPMs" for mandrake, after trying all the
more conventional routes but unable to solve the dependencies after many
hours of trying ...)

any suggestions?
thanks,
Mary

[Freevo-users] freevo won't start -- newbie

2004-01-03 Thread Mary Strimel
hi,
I am trying to run ver. 1.4 on my redhat 8.0 system. I installed it
using the lynx method shown on the website. I ran freevo setup, then try
to start freevo and get this:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./src/main.py", line 82, in ?
import mmpython
  File
"/usr/local/freevo/runtime/lib/python2.3/site-packages/mmpython/__init__.py", line

xmltv_channels = xmltv.read_channels(tmp)

I'm an ordinary end-user type; should I give up on freevo or is there
something I can do to get this running?
thanks
Mary
