Hi Daniel
How are you grabbing your listings? I had to use 'freevo tv_grab' (after
setting my tv grabber in local_conf.py) before I got my favourites to
appear in scheduled recordings. Before I was just using my normal xmltv

Re: [Freevo-users] tvmixer for sound recording

2004-04-21 Thread Paul Hampton
Hi Mick

The module wouldn't load if there was no btaudio card available. Also it
doesn't just pass the sound to the soundcard (in fact you don't even
need a soundcard to use it) - it provides it's own specific device you
can record from. I find it a lot preferable to a pass-thru cable
especially for sync issues.

Mary, I'm just using the 'aumix' with my bt audio - using the -d flag to
specify 'mixer1' which appears when I load the btaudio module:

kylie root # aumix -d /dev/mixer1 -q
line1 0, 0, P
line2 0, 0, P
line3 20, 20, R

Re: [Freevo-users] DXR3 pygame.error: No Available video device

2004-04-15 Thread Paul Hampton
Hi John

I think you're getting a bit confused with 'games' and 'pygame'. Pygame
is a set of python modules that allows you to create games or other SDL
display things like menus. This is what Freevo uses to display all it's
menus so without pygame working you wouldn't see Freevo at all.

configuring an compiling SDL afterwards goes without any errors. But
stil I get the obove mesage. I'm runing debian both stable and

Freevo with the adapted runtime package as described on the wiki dxr3

On the unstable distro of debian i've even tried apt-get'ting

I would get all dependencies, removed libSDL and compiled it myself.
Nothing did get me to a solution. Even tried to export
SDL_VIDEODEVICE=dxr3 But it didn't make a diverence.

[Freevo-users] Problem with webserver on 1.5-pre1

Hi all

At the weekend I upgraded my freevo setup to 1.5-pre1. It is a Gentoo

[Freevo-users] Intermittent dxr3 DVD problem

Hi guys

I am having a problem sometimes when watching DVD's on my dxr3 with
Freevo 1.4.1. I am using Xine. Basically what happens is sometimes
(around 30% of the time) I press stop on the DVD and the freevo menu
does not return. If I restart freevo it works fine again. The following
appears in my logfile:

Is it possible it is trying to start the display too quickly before Xine

Hi Tim

What geometry settings are in your freevo.conf? If I use 800x600 I get
the same symptons - however using 720x576 (for PAL) I get a perfect
amount of overscan with the dxr3.

Your initial email was a bit confusing I think as you asked "I was
wondering how can I set freevo to create MORE overscan?" then when given
the solution your reply is "I did and it give me MORE overscan." ;-)

I'm pretty sure you shouldnt have to fiddle with overscan settings too
much with dxr3 (I certainly didn't have to).

completely missing and the menu text is starting to spill over the edge to
be cut off.
I want Underscan in essence... I want the idlebar to be completely on

I tried to set the overscan_x and overscan_y to negative numbers and they do

Re: [Freevo-users] Feature suggestion for Webradio

2003-09-25 Thread Paul Hampton
Hi Frederick

I think the biggest problem in your example is that you would need to
write a different parser for each radio station (and hope that they
don't change the format of their 'now playing' part on the website). I
guess it would be possible to get the Clip information sent by a radio
station when you connect, ie:

Clip info:
name: BBC Radio 1
author: BBC
copyright: (C) British Broadcasting Corporation 2003
This however is not very interesting and not reall worth it given that
you could just add this and more into the .fxd file anyway.

I guess it could be possible to write a universal parser where you could
add a item into the .fxd and it would display the information
after the text you add here (ie. print everything on the line after 'Now
playing:' on this webpage) but it might be harder for your example where
it shows the last 10 songs.

I might have a play around next week as I am off work.

Cheers
Paul

would be nice to integrate them in freevo.
Suggestion: Add data_url="http:///www.swr3.de/audioplayer/last13.php to

I don't know how hard it is to integrate this smoothly into freevo but it

Is that because you can have one output doing freevo to you TV

Hi Kevin

I think you mean 'Am I looking for' and not 'I'm I looking for' hence
the confusion over your email? Maybe a bit of proof reading is in order
next time ;)

The matrox documentation on the freevo website (
http://freevo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/DocumentationPage_2fMatroxInfo
) gives you the information you need:

Here are some basic things you should know before we begin :
 - TV/Out only works on the SECOND head of your dualhead card. Figure out
   which is which. That should be easy : connect a monitor to one of the
   heads and start your computer. If you get output, that's the first head.
   The second head doesn't have output unless you turn it on in software.

So that says to me you need a dual head Matrox card (and the same
documentation says a cheaper DH Millenium is ok).

If you get a dual head card, make sure you get the tv out cable with it.

Re: [Freevo-users] Streaming Internet Radio

2003-06-24 Thread Paul Hampton
Hi Tommy

I wrote and submitted the internet streaming part on 7th May and I'm
pretty sure its only in the cvs version and not in pre4 which came out
on 24th April.

So you can either use the cvs version or here are the modifications I
submitted at the time (Aubin cleaned them up for the cvs so this is more
a 'rougher' version but it works quickly if you want to use it - it is
just things like the labels are incorrect on the screen like it says
'album'):

Go to src/audio

Add these two bits to audioitem.py (should be pretty obvious where to
put them):

  if re.match('.*[fF][xX][dD]$', self.filename):
  if DEBUG > 1: print "Got fxd..."
  self.set_info_radio(self.filename)
AND

  def set_info_radio(self, filename):
  """
  Sets the info variables with info from the mp3
  Arguments: filename
Returns: 1 if success
  """
  import xmllib
  import xml
  from xml.parsers import expat
  sourcexml = open(filename, 'r')
  xmlpp = sourcexml.read()
  def s_el(name, attrs):
  global glob_name
  glob_name = name
  def e_el(name):
  print "   (attribute", name, "ends)"
  def c_data(data):
  global glob_name
  global glob_val
  global glob_url
  print glob_name, data
  if data:
  if glob_name == 'title':
  self.title = data
  glob_name = 0
  if glob_name == 'genre':
  self.album = data
  glob_name = 0
  if glob_name == 'desc':
  self.artist = data
  glob_name = 0
  if glob_name == 'url':
  self.year = data
  print "URL:", self.year
  glob_name = 0
  prs = xml.parsers.expat.ParserCreate()
  prs.StartElementHandler = s_el
  prs.EndElementHandler = e_el
  prs.CharacterDataHandler = c_data
  prs.returns_unicode = 0
  prs.Parse(xmlpp)
  return 1
and edit this part of the audio/mplayer.py

  def play(self, item):
  """
  play a audioitem with mplayer
  """
  if item.year:
  filename = item.year
  else:
  filename = item.filename
You will also need to edit the freevo_config to recognise fxd files in
the audio bit. Sorry its so messy, I have never programmed python before.

Here is an example fxd file:

  Ministry of Sound Radio

  http://www.ministryofsound.com/asx/radio/mosradio.asx

Dance
All the Biggest Names in Dance - Fatboy Slim, Sasha, Jazzy M,
Paul Van Dyk, DJ Wicksta, Peri Rollah, Ferry Corsten and many more live
on MoS Radio.

If you need a hand adding this stuff then mail me or icq 4545353.

Regards,
Paul
PS. as you probably noticed, the 'logo' part is unessecary in the .fxd
files, I just left that there when I was testing. If you call the image
the same name as the .fxd then it works (as I see you have done).

All you need to do is add a fxd file like this example to your Music
directories.

   Mostly Classical

Hi

The only 'issue' is that freevo is running as root the way I do it, but
I'm not worried about that. The info/link in the wiki tells you how to
get around this.

As for window problems or mplayer problems, there are none - not even
when I used 1.3.1. I'm not sure what you mean by SDL not being able to
open more windows without a wm? I thought XFree86 handled this rather
than the windows manager. How would my mplayer work on the top of freevo
otherwise?

Cheers

I think there's some issues with doing it this way. I don't remember if
the Wiki section on running Freevo automatically from startup linked to
the original article on starting up applications automatically in X, but
it has something to do with UID/GID.

Also SDL might not like the fact that it cannot create additional windows
in X (without a WM) and mplayer won't run (might work if display=xv)?
I haven't tried messing with this since the 1.3.1 release, so
changes to the freevo display code might have resolved some of these
issues.
I'm using blackbox WM if I run in X, but nowadays I just use framebuffer
mode.

that?  Something like:

exec freevo&

Hi Alan,

Yep, basically:

kylie root # more .xinitrc
/opt/freevo/freevo
How do you tell it start in fullscreen mode? (I still
have to get X to display on my TV monitor, but it'll
be useful to know this for when I do get it going!)
I'm using a Geforce 4Ti and just have this in the XF86config file:

Section "Monitor"

   Identifier  "telly"
   HorizSync   30-50
   VertRefresh 60
   Option "TVStandard" "PAL-B"
   Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
   Option "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE"

EndSection

When you startx the nvidia splash screen appears on the TV and then
after a brief greyscreen/X mouse cursor freevo loads in glorious
fullscreen. The rest is all just the standard nv driver stuff. I'm using
Gentoo.

Hope this helps, if you need any other info let me know.
Paul

Why load a windows manager at all? Freevo is setup to be the 'windows
manager' on my gentoo box and works pretty well.

Paul

To those running Freevo under X: what window managers
do you use??
