Which version of pygoom are you using? You need the pygoom-0.1 series 
for mplayervis2.

This is a useless setting, it does nothing more than display a frame 
rate of 15

IIRC you need both audio.detach and audio.detachbar. detachbar is the 
display of the audio (possibly not a requirement) and detach controls 
the audio playback.

This seems to be the general sentiment so far.

Duncan, you're so far kaa.base's biggest customer (by means of Freevo

If i understand this you mean you want old fashion VCR recording of
show you are currently watching. To do that, "live recording", you
will need to use the xine_ivtv_tv  plugin with latest xine build.
