Yeah, but what about Windowz boxes?

I've seen one (pdc) alive for +- 2 years. The administrator didn't
believe me when I sayd the latest issue (a stupid thing I don't
remember such as no authentication possible anymore) he was facing
would -probably- be solved by a reboot (My limited nt eperience is:
reboot twice (at least) watch the screen with 3-4 colleagues (at least)
if the issue is not solved by these 2 magic keys, spend some time but
do not spend too much time trying to understand what's happening::it's
usually a waste of time).

Hum, how did you guess he isn't talking about a windows box ? 8-))

Did he meant neve reboot or never boot. In the 2nd case,I guess most of
you will agree. The same kind of things applys for infratructures:
isn't air gap firewalls one of te most secure piece of hardware?

So what your saying is that if you never reboot no one will find a hole in
your OS?!?I'm sorry mate but I just don't see how in the hell this is
any help at all?..

Try that on a windows based server like a lot of large companies rely on and
you will soon find its just not an option...

How about, NEVER TURN THE MACHINE ON!this is on a par with your
reasoning and about as systematic..

Speaking for myself here and the region I work in ,we have a crappy power
grid and long blackouts are common place and I don't know of an UPS system
that would cope aside from a back up generator to remedy the situation ,what
your suggesting nothing but folly.

That's without mention of basic maintenance or heaven forbid...moving a
machine

No offence intended.

Sean

Could it be because if it was a windows box it would have only have
been 876 min uptime instead of days? ;)

ha ha

I just had to
