I tried it. It works, thanks a lot. All I needed was a vanilla

xcompmgr

(I didn't need any fancy shadows with -c).

Now that it works I realize how bad the quality of the Zoom whiteboard
drawing is. I use xournal++ normally, which yields much better results
(but isn't collaborative).

You mean the one with various options for the whiteboard cursor: type of line,
text, colour selection, etc.? I get that without any problems, so don't know
what might be wrong.

I suppose I'm superstitious, but if you tinker around with it until you get
frustrated, give up, and revisit after some days/weeks, these things sometimes
fix themselves :).

Good luck!

Hmmm, I'm not sure what has changed, but the instructions I had written about
earlier (from https://forum.manjaro.org/t/zoom-whiteboard-does-not-work/131178)
seem to be working now. Specifically:

1. Start Zoom.
2. Run "xcompmgr -c -l0 -t0 -r0 -o.00" in a terminal.
3. Start the whiteboard. I can now draw, change colour, etc.

As suggested in the Manjaro forum page, I'm thinking of putting this in my
.xsession now.

GI, Dov, perhaps you could try this to see if it helps.

I don't have this problem. The floating toolbar, and minimized
thumbnails all work fine. It's just the whiteboard + screen annotations
that dont work under Fvwm, but work under other desktops...

I'm running Fedora 32 and I'm choosing fvwm as my "session" in gdm.
Doing `ps -ef grep dbus | grep -i session` returns the following. Am I
missing something?

gdm 14781341 0 06:37 tty1 00:00:00
/usr/libexec/gdm-x-session dbus-run-session -- gnome-session
--autostart /usr/share/gdm/greeter/autostart
gdm 14891478 0 06:37 tty1 00:00:00 dbus-run-session
-- gnome-session --autostart /usr/share/gdm/greeter/autostart
gdm 14901489 0 06:37 tty1 00:00:00 dbus-daemon
--nofork --print-address 4 --session
dov62906 1 0 09:46 pts/600:00:00 dbus-launch
--sh-syntax --exit-with-session
dov62907 1 0 09:46 ?00:00:00
/usr/bin/dbus-daemon --syslog --fork --print-pid 6 --print-address 8
--session

Thanks!

Re: FVWM: Zoom whiteboard and fvwm

2020-08-06 Thread Dov Grobgeld
I have experienced the same problem. I worked around it by
running Krita as a separate process and sharing it's window as a
whiteboard. But obviously that is not the same thing as a whiteboard
and cannot be used for collaborative editing.

A more serious Zoom related problem for me is that when I share a
window, the floating toolbar is not shown. After sharing once,
I'm stuck until somebody takes over the share, or the meeting is
ended. Has anyone seen the same issue? I found a work around for
that though, if I first share the Whiteboard, the floating
toolbar is shown. I can then do New Share, and the toolbar still
stays visible.

As I have a subscription to Zoom I opened an issue to them about
it, but I'm not sure if it's a zoom problem or an fvwm
problem. The same scenario works under Gnome.

Regards,

I use Fvwm. The Zoom whiteboard or screen annotations do not work for me
either.

It works under KDE.

FVWM: Zoom whiteboard and fvwm

2020-07-06 Thread Mandar Mitra
Like many other people, I have had to start using Zoom. I couldn't get the
whiteboard to work, so I (blindly) followed the tips given here:

https://forum.manjaro.org/t/zoom-whiteboard-does-not-work/131178

Now the whiteboard works partially: text and a few other annotations work, but
general drawing tools do not. On a hunch, I logged in using the default Linux
Mint Mate desktop manager, and things seem to work fine.

If you're running fvwm and using Zoom, can you please check if you can
reproduce this problem?

Many thanks for your help!
