I download from CVS and build myself.

I suppose a tgz is easier for users to work with?
We do provide them for releases.

If no one else thinks we need them, I'll update the web pages
to match the current situation.

I'll give it a few days.

I'm using exactly the same scripts as were originally used to generate
the snapshots (and update the sources directory).  I just added them
back into my crontab.  I don't even know how to check out a branch (or,
really, do much of anything) in CVS these days.
