Re: Statement on today's terrorist attack in the USA

2001-09-12 Thread Obi-Wan
Thanks for your sympathies on this matter. It's reassuring to know
that those elsewhere in the world feel as strongly about this as many
of us here in the States do.

As a loyal user of fvwm for probably 9 years or so, I'd love to have
my name added to the list:
Ben Obi-Wan Hollingsworth

However, the wording you suggest makes it sound like the names in the
list were victims of the attacks. I'm very happy to say that I was
not so victimized. Before the list of names, you might add a line
like this:

The following people would like to express their sympathies to those
affected:

I plan to dedicate the upcoming fvwm-2.4.1 release to the victims
of this disaster. The following text will be included in the
ANNOUNCE mail for the release, followed by the names of everybody
 who wants to be included:

This release is dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attacks
in New York, Washington D.C and Pittsburgh on 11th of September,
   2001.

 alphabetical list of names

and all other users and developers of fvwm.

I ask everybody to allow me to add his or her name to the list.
Please reply to me or fvwm-workers@fvwm.org if I may do so.

 Bye

Just built the new version of Fvwm (ver. 2.4.0) on our network, both for
Solaris 2.6 and Redhat Linux 6.2. We use a standard FvwmForm for a logout
prompt - taken from FvwmForm man page - details of config. listed at end
of message. Using fvwm 2.2.4 there are no problems. However, for fvwm
2.4.0
actions are taken immediately when a button (either Cancel or Logout in
this case) is pressed, and not when it is released. This behaviour is only
on Solaris installation (I've tried using both Sun cc and gcc), the Linux
installation works fine. My temporary fix is to use the FvwmForm from
2.2.4,
which seems to cause no problems.

Relevant config is:

The version of FvwmM4 distributed with fvwm 2.4.0 does not work
properly on Solaris 2.6, I think due to the lack of a -I switch
on the command m4. This can be overcome by removing the offending
switch from FvwmM4.c, as follows;

Line 111: /* sprintf(m4_options, -I '%s' , FVWM_DATADIR); */
Line 112:  sprintf(m4_options,  );

However, this will reduce functionality of the FvwmM4 command. It
doesn't cause any problems with our configuration.

 Subject: FvwmForm behavioural anomaly.

 Full_Name: George Beckett
 Version: 2.4.0
 OS: Solaris 2.6 SPARC

I'm the culprit on this one.
Actually, I like the immediate action.
Looking at FvwmScript, I get the impression it does the same thing.

I remember the old logic didn't work very well, perhaps it wasn't
robust enough. So far, all the solutions that look like they
might be robust seem to be pretty big too.

Anyone have an opinion about whether this should be fixed and
if so, what to use as a model?
