[fw-general] Zend Framework 1.5 has landed!
Well, folks, we made it. Zend Framework 1.5 GA is now released and available at the framework site: http://framework.zend.com/download And just to remind you once again of all the new features in 1.5: * New Zend_Form component with support for AJAX-enabled form elements * New action and view helpers for automating and facilitating AJAX requests and alternate response formats * Infocard, OpenID, and LDAP authentication adapters * Support for complex Lucene searches, including fuzzy, date-range, and wildcard queries * Support for Lucene 2.1 index file format * Partial, Placeholder, Action, and Header view helpers for advanced view composition and rendering * New Zend_Layout component for automating and facilitating site layouts * UTF-8 support for PDF documents * New Nirvanix, Technorati, and SlideShare web services There are a lot of people to thank, since there are a lot of people who worked hard to make this happen. First of all, thanks to all the Zend Framework contributors who helped in all kinds of ways to make this a truly great, high-quality release. I would personally like to thank the Zend Framework team here at Zend for working the long hours this weekend to make sure everything came together on Monday morning. There were also some very selfless souls in marketing who stayed up late over the last few days to make sure the site was at its best in both style and substance for the big day. Finally we'd like to thank all the ZF users out there who inspire us to continue improving Zend Framework and who never fail to keep us on our toes. :) We hope this release not only lives up to your high expectations but goes beyond them. Now we can finally say that we wholeheartedly recommend the 1.5 release for production use. Enjoy ZF 1.5! ,Wil

Thanks to Wil and everyone involved in the Zend Framework project - downloading it as we speak :-) Love the new site as well, looks very Web 2.0 :-) Just one thing though, the Quick Start link from the ZF site homepage gives an action not found error :-( Keep up the good work all! Congratulations and thank you to the ZF team at Zend and all other people who contributed to make this release happen. It is truly a great ZF release! Everybody who worked hard for this moment should take a day off and enjoy both the release and the brand new ZF site. After that, it's onward to 1.6! ;) Cheers! Re: [fw-general] Zend Framework 1.5 has landed!
Great news, great new site! However, I don't like how the language switch is currently implemented in the docs. I thought I could just change the value of the select box and it would take me to the introduction page of the German manual, however it turned out that I had to enter a specific component or other keyword in the Search text field and then select German from the select box to be able to view the German content. This implementation seems to be flawed from a usability point of view, since it gives no possibility whatsoever to just browse the docs in any other language than English. Otherwise, again, GREAT SITE! Best regards, Tobias -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Wil Sinclair [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Gesendet: Montag, 17. RE: [fw-general] Zend Framework 1.5 has landed!
I feel obligated to say here that this is not the design that we got from Varien. The original design looks much nicer and more professional, but we had some issues with installing the fonts so we had to cut this corner for the release. We will get their design up quickly once we can render it on our own machines. Now that I think of it, I completely forgot to thank Varien in our announcement, which is really an unfortunate omission. They created IMO a gorgeous site for us as their way of giving back to the project. I'm going to send a separate email to the list to hopefully bring more people's attention to this fact. ,Wil -Original Message- From: Andi Gutmans [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, March 17, 2008 8:31 AM To: Tim Brayshaw; fw-general@lists.zend.com Subject: RE: [fw-general] Zend Framework 1.5 has landed! Congratulations on the new release and site, there's some amazing stuff in there! Minor niggle with the new site: the kerning for the graphic 'Simplicity, Meet Power' (http://framework.zend.com/images/ tagline.png) looks 'a bit off' to me. Not a big problem in the grand scheme of things; but to people who notice this stuff, it sticks out like a sore thumb! See comparison here: http://www.twisty.com/misc/zf/compare.png The top line is how it appears on the site, the bottom line is, IMHO, closer to how it should appear. Best regards, Tim.
