The described problems have been resolved by moving the account to a
different server. This was necessary for other reasons and at the same time
 took care of this problem.

Okay, but I can't move the application to another server because this
is my laptop which I'm using to develop.
What can I do to resolve this problem?

I would appreciate your kind help!

Even worth that the same code is working fine under windows
(wampserver) because I'm using shared partition. So, I think I'm
totaly confused.

I solve the problem. I downgraded the php from 5.2.10 to 5.2.9-r2
(gentoo portage) and working fine. Is this an php bug?

Thanks for adding this information! The system that I had the problems with
is running php 5.2.3 and the one that it now works on is 5.2.9.

That 5.2.3 had issues doesn't surprise me entirely -- our minimum
supported version is 5.2.4 in part due to changes and additions to the
SPL in that version.

Matthew, thanks for the reply. It would have certainly helped if I had read
the system requirements section. :-(
