Re: hard drive upgrades

2002-05-29 Thread Dick Grable

I have the same case with a 20G Travelstar. Finally purchased a power supply
from Radio Shack so the drive would quit spinning down when it should be
running. Also, with external power it can be used to boot my TiBook.

Also should have kept the Newer Firewire2Go card so the drive and digital
camcorder could be used at the same time.

Just got a 40G IBM Travelstar from newegg along with a USB 1.1/FW 2.5
enclosure from computergeeks.com for around 200 total (150 HD, 50
case). The case description mentions that it needs a PS/2 - power
adapter when using FW, but I figured they were thinking PC notebooks
which typically have the 4-pin no-power carrying FW port not the
6-pin power carrying port that apples have and turns out I guessed
right, the case does work as self powered when used with my TiBook.

At one point back in January, about a week after I bought my 48 GB IBM
Travelstar, Dell.com had the 60GB ones for sale at around the same price
that I paid for 48 Gigs. It was the the same IBM Travelstar brand, just
larger. Of course, they want you to buy a Dell computer, but you're
better off without that part. I'll dig around to try to find the URL (I
don't think it was in an obvious part of their site), but I'm busy this
week and probably won't be able to get around to it.

stuck pixel repair for Wallstreet 300?

I just picked up a used Wallstreet 300 and the seller lied about
there being no stuck pixels. I don't care enough to send it back,

'rub-out' a stuck pixel on an active matrix screen by simply rubbing
the area with a finger. Is that correct? Any suggestions regarding
removing a stuck pixel?

Pismo manufacture date

2002-05-29 Thread Jim Freeman

Can anyone help me figure out the manufacture date of my Pismo. I'm
considering an iBot firewire web cam and apparently there is an
incompatibility with older Pismo's. I quote from iBot:

At this time there is an incompatibility between all Texas Instruments
based web cams (including the iBOT camera) and the built-in FireWire
port on a PowerBook G3 (Pismo) laptops made before June/July of 2000.

Thanks,
