Re: Discount Airport Station?
Well, as far as I know, I have the latest update to the ABS installed. I'm probably going to keep the hub in the network just now because I'm sharing my connection with my son's PCs. He has 3 machines set up as his own mini-LAN that ties to mine via the hub and another router. I think I'll keep the set-up this way until I install 10.2 and see how Rendevous works. Kinda like if it ain't broke don't fix it. Joe Ellis - Original Message - From: Paige H. When I used the hub linking to the Cable modem then to the ABS and the Primary link on the hub, it started working and I've just left things alone since then. Joe, I ran into this problem a while back. When @Home folded and Comcast switched me over to their own network, my cable modem connection via ABS suddenly stopped working. Drove me nuts bouncing back and forth between Comcast and Apple support for about a week. Then I happened to find out that it's because Comcast changed their networking protocol somehow. The recommended solution was to get a hub or router to put between the cable modem and the ABS, which I did. This resolved the problem. Some months later, Apple corrected the problem with onr of their Airport updates (sorry, don't remember which). I've subsequently ditched the router. My recommendation is, unless you absolutely need the hub, download the ABS updates and try it out. You may gain other benefits as well. -pha -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Way OT: Ping service?!?!
MARK: You might also do a roll your own monitoring using a tool like Intermapper or NetSaint. Intermapper is a Mac platform tool that will monitor most of the common protocols ( HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP or just ping). There's an e-mail tool in there for notification purposes, and can be hooked up to a paging modem. Down side - InterMapper requires a 24x7 connection. Put out by DartWare Contact me off list if you like and I can give you more details. ( I have no association with DartWare other than using this product for the last 5 years. It just works.) -- Guy M I recently switched hosting services for my website. They guarantee a 99% uptime. Just about every other day there have been service outages and it's getting a bit frustrating. They range from a matter of minutes (at least from the time I realize they are down) to an hour or so. This does not sound like a mere 1% of the time. They say it is a temporary problem but I just want to make sure. Can anybody suggest a service that will regularly ping (hope that's the correct term) my website to make sure it's up, and track the times that it is down? I figure I will need some proof if I want to file a complaint regard down time. Another option might be a software I could run on my machine at home which is on a DSL connection. Why don't you skip the ABS and just buy an airport card for the G4? Then you can hardwire the G4 to your internet connection, enable software basestation, and share your internet connection with your powerbook wirelessly. Your G4 acts as a basestation. Re: Is there any software for linking MPEGs?
Seth, If I understand your question right, just get all your movie files on your desktop, then open the one you want to open up with. We'll call this Movie A. Movie A will then pop up in your QT Player. Play the movie to its end or move your little playback head to the end of the movie. Then grab the next movie you want (EG Movie B) and drag and drop it in the player. Wash. Rinse. Thoroughly. Repeat. After all you little clips are together, move your playhead back to the start and then hit play. Then use your Save command and give it a name. Voila. Of course I have been using QT 6 Pro for so long, I cannot remember whether or not it works in the amateur (?) version. Well try it and good luck! S PS Wow. Two questions I have been able to answer in two days. I do not feel like such a leech anymore.
