Suggestions LaserWriter Pro 630 in OSX

2003-06-02 Thread R Farrington
Ok I want to get my LaserWriter pro 630 to work with either my Beige G3
and/or my ibook 700 under osx.

I have a USB to parallel adapter widget, and a still unhooked up linksys
router...and Mac serial port on the beige too.

So I am looking for some suggestions of how to get this thing hooked up in
any capacity...i had found the whole printer setup under OS X to be slightly
uglyall I want to do is print out shipping labels with swordfish...
Thanks
Rob

OS X won't access a printer through it's Parallel port, nor through its
LocalTalk port.

you need to hook the printer up through it's Ethernet port to your
network - it doesn't have an RJ45 port that's common now, though. in
1993, 10baseT ethernet wasn't a clear winner, so Apple used the AAUI
port. you need to buy a 10baseT AAUI transceiver, which will turn the
AAUI port into an RJ45 for 10baseT Ethernet. Then, hook it either into
the computer's individual ethernet ports, or into a network with your
linksys router.

I managed to get my Laserwriter Pro 630 to work with my BW in Jaguar
by using a USB-to-parallel cable and doing the following in Print
Center:
Option-click Add.
Select Advanced from the drop-down list.
Choose IEEE 1284 Controller from the Device menu.
Select Printer Model.
Add.
HTH.

Pismo Printing Problem

2003-06-02 Thread Joe Ellis
Up until a couple of days ago, I had no problems printing from my Pismo to
the USB printer on my G4 desktop system. Between the time I last
successfully printed from the Pismo and the failure to print, I installed
Acrobat 6.0 and updated iTunes to 4.01. Anyone else run into printer
problems after installing either of these?

TIA
Joe Ellis

I didn't upgrade to Acrobat 6.0 after reading the poor reviews.

featurectomy /fee`ch*r-ek't*-mee/ n.: The act of removing a feature from a
program. Featurectomies come in two flavors, the `righteous' and the
`reluctant'. Righteous featurectomies are performed because the remover
believes the program would be more elegant without the feature, or there is
already an equivalent and better way to achieve the same end. (Doing so is
not quite the same thing as removing a misfeature.) Reluctant featurectomies
are performed to satisfy some external constraint such as code size or
execution speed.

Have you done the iTunes update? If so, did you develop any printing
problems? I'm still not sure which caused me lose printing but it had to be
one or the other since I did nothing else.

Heuristics are bug ridden by definition. If they didn't have bugs, then
they'd be algorithms.
