I've tried zapping PRAM and resetting power manager, and going back to 8.6 with the stock CDs too. I also tried the IOXperts generic wifi drivers (www.ioxperts.com) which also didn't report seeing a card. Lastly, I tried a NetGear 802.11b Wireless PC Card (MA 401), which also wasn't recognized. Anyone have any tips? Is there a way to 'reset' the PC Card slot? I can't seem to find a way to make sure it's getting power. Thanks, -=Dennis=- --- Have you tried the Proxim card with the Apple Airport drivers? I thought that card was one of those that worked like an Airport card. Does the card have an LED? Re: CCLEngine attempts net connection every hour
Bruce Johnson said: Check date and time settings...is it trying to contact a network time server? (kind of unusual an hourly thing, though) Software update might be trying too, but again, an hourly update is unusual. I should have mentioned that I have Little Snitch installed. The only apps that have Allow any connectionis Classic Environment (non existing), iChatagent ( as far as I can tell isn't running), LimeWire and SoulseeX (not running), lookupd, mDNSresponder (UDP only), Net Tool Box (Not running), nslookup (UDP only) and Safari (not running). All other connection attempts, except those that have specific rules in my Little Snitch setting, should render a Little Snitch dialog. This doesn't happen. Wouldn't calls for the net get logged somewhere? I'm not sure where actually. They must succed when I'm on steady connection, as there is no LS dialogs so I think whatever calls there are (if that is the reason), they must be within the Little Snitch Rules I have. There is also the possibility that there is no call, but a setting that keep telling my machine to use the modem. The silence online is an indication of that there are calls, but when I'm online I keep the modem turned off in Network, because Safari and other apps for some reason goes there instead of going to the only live connection, so it's possible whatever is calling only wants to use the modem. I'm not sure if this network problem is related though. Iäd liek to solve that one after this modem calling problem though. Both NTP and software update have other settings, so they seem unlikely contenders. -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... MCE Wallstreet optical EBM
I finally, after a false start or two, got my hands on an MCE Wallstreet optical expansion bay. I ended up with the rarest of the rare, thier CDRW/DVD-ROM combo drive. I immediately took it apart and examined its interface PCB, pics here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/macdan/mce_optical_ebm.html The EBM itself is quite simple, plastic shell for top and bottom, attached together with another plastic cap at the rear. Of course it also has a Wallstreet-specific bezel attached to its Toshiba SD-R2002 mechanism. I'll have some more pics and details up ASAP, just figured I'd post this now in case anyone might be interested. Also . . . the thought has occurred to me there might still be a market for optical EBMs for these older 'Books. Anyone care to comment on the business case for producing a few hundred EBM kits (maybe just EBM shell and IF PCB, sans mechanism) that could be used in both Wallstreet and 3400/Kanga? dan k . http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 . -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
