Re: Another Opinion wanted

Exactly. That's what I was trying to get across by comparing my Ti to my
friends Pismo. 'Elegantly' is a much nicer way to put it. :) The good thing
is Tom and Lisa now know there is a third option. 500MHz G4.

What are you running the display at? 800x600 millions or 1024x768 thousands.

Me ? I run at 1024x768 in thousands. The G4/500 has kind of a high
price premium .

My old Palm Pilot Pro was in a dry bag on a boat. A crew member
opened the bag, and forgot to close it. This is a wet sailboat,
the bag filled with water, and the cell phone and Palm inside were
submerged. Both died. Took them apart to dry, the phone revived,
but the Palm didn't. So, put it in a drawer and a couple years later,
preparing to toss it out, put new batteries in it. It worked just
fine. Sold it on Ebay.

The voltage going through that motherboard circuitry isn't all that
much. There may be no permanent damage. You could try taking it apart,
and cleaning the motherboard with alcohol and/or distilled water. Dry
the motherboard well, and after a couple days put it together. See
what happens.

Unless the apps you are going to use have been optimized by Altivec, iTunes
for instance, go with the G3. The extra 100Mhz will make more of a
difference in most operations. Plus it runs cooler.

I have the wallstreet that has 2 megs vram. It now has L2 1 meg cache
via G4 500 mhz Blue Chip accellerator. It does most everything that the
daughters 700mhz G3 Ibook does. maybe not as elegantly. :)

1024x780thousands. I don't have the option in display prefs for
millions at 800x600.

Re: Need tips for using PowerBook as desktop system

2005-05-25 Thread jeanbee

Your almost right, I am using an old VCR for the tuner, however it runs
into the Dell 2005FPW 20 inch screen not the PowerBook. The Dell
Screen has VGA, DVI and a S plug, you can switch between them using
a switch on the front of the display and you can also see TV using it's
built in P in P. I have my old PowerBook hooked into the VGA and a
Mac Mini hooked into the DVI. The Dell screen looks as good as my
partners 20 inch Apple display, but it has more functions. The only
thing
I hate about it is it says Dell on the front in Silver letters, so I
took a Black
magic marker and made that black.

I noticed a good deal on a 20 Dell LCD with all those connections ...
I am SO tempted, and like your marker cover-up plan. Does yours have
built-in USB hub, too? ... Is Dell the only one making something like
this? ... anyone know?

Praise for Dual-USB IBOOK

2005-05-25 Thread bobgir2004
Folks at MyMac.com had nice things to say about the G3 Dual-USB iBook,
noting that...

...when it comes to balancing performance, looks, and price, my vote goes to
the dual-USB G3 iBook, perhaps the first Mac portable to bring all the joys
of mobile computing to the masses without having to make any serious
compromises.

You can read the full article at:
