Tiger on a Dual-USB iBook
I have a G3, 500Mhz, iBook running 10.3.9., 640Mb of ram It's considerably slower, naturally, than my G5 iMac running Tiger. Has anyone installed Tiger on this generation of iBook and, if so, does it run faster, slower, or about the same as Panther? If there's no speed improvement, then I'll just leave this one where it is, with 10.3.9. Many thanks, Bob -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Clamshell CD-Rom problems
My wife's original blue clamshell iBook just went wonky, suddenly deciding it does not have an airport card and unable to access the CD-Rom drive, which spins up but does not read. Booting is also unreliable. The Apple tech says I have to buy a new CD-Rom before anything else can be done as it is defective. USB only on this machine, no firewire. My questions: Is there any workaround to boot from an external HD or something like that with this machine? Any other way to load a new system besides the internal CD-Rom drive? In other words, any way to avoid many $100s of expense? Thanks, Jim -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... wegenermedia.com has factory new drives for ~$70 and pbfixit.com has a nice complete step-by-step procedure outlined. Re: Clamshell CD-Rom problems
Oh well, the decision seems to have been taken out of my hands. Did manage to reinstall the system - probably with the workaround suggested, but then discovered the logic board is also not working. I don't understand how it happened - she put it to sleep unplugged it - carried it (carefully) down a flight of stairs, and woke it up at the bottom. Suddenly no internet, no CD-Rom. Re: DVD.app error
OSX isn't supposed to run on Wallstreets either, but many people do run it successfully. According to Apples specs, it (Lombard) is designed to support OSX: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=43120 Not Tiger, because of the firewire, but still. That message seemed like some kind of configuration error, like perhaps there might be a file that I can edit? My Lombard came with DVD drive in it, when I bought it used. My Pismo has a DVD and it works fine, I didn't think there was that much of a difference between the two other than the firewire. == Rad Craig, Induction Concepts, High Performance Twin Turbo Systems http://www.inductionconcepts.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] 918.825.TWIN == On Jun 10, 2005, at 10:26 PM, themacuser wrote: Lombards don't support DVD Player according to Apple.
