Hello,
I see original Airport cards advertised with 64 bit and 128 bit

Thanks.

Re: Program search

2005-08-09 Thread Howard Katz
Thanks--but this is just showing variations of commander and the
one I'm looking for is called n commander. (switches the key
command for new folder and new finder.) The list presented also
doesn't have n commander in it--lots of others tho. :)

(also, most that were presented look like commercial programs?)

Yahoo messenger client for Lombard with Panther?

2005-08-09 Thread Andrew in Ann Arbor

Hello all
My daughter wants to use Yahoo's instant messenger service.
I am reluctant to install Yahoo's client server.
Is there a better alternative?
She's got a Lombard 400 with 512Mb RAM running OS 10.3.9.

Thanks

Re: PC Card SCSI Adaptor for Tiger

2005-08-09 Thread Sir Clark Frazier Hale I

I'm not sure if responding to my own message is bad form.

I've found another SCSI card with a company that supports the Mac more
than Adaptec.

It's from a company called RATOC, and it's apparently Tiger-ready.

http://www.rexpccard.co.jp/english/products/subpages/cb31pismo.html

I think I'm going to buy it, and see what happens.

Clark

Hello,

I need to connect a SCSI MO (Magneto Optical) drive to my Powerbook, and

want a PC Card instead of a USB adaptor because I'd like to share it
with a few older laptops.

So far, I've only found the Adaptec SlimSCSI, are there any others? How
is it's support for Tiger?

Thanks,

Clark

Re: Mail app the bounce feature

2005-08-09 Thread Ruffin Bailey
There's something about spamming that has me puzzled.

I'm at a loss to see how it pays. I can't imagine enough
people dim enough to buy something from a spammer. ...

It would also seem that if spamming really does pay, this
undermines one of the foundations of classical economics, which is
supposed to be based on the idea that buyers are rational people
 pursuing goals favorable to themselves.

Reminds me a bit of the SNL skit were there was a business that only changed
money. They went through a whole slew of, Give us four quarters, you can
have 20 nickels sort of deal. The punch line was something like, How do
we make money? One word: Volume.

Well, volume I suppose really does pay in spamming. How much, even
including the cost of time, could it cost to send out a few million emails
once you've got your act down? Reminds me of another SNL skit where Eddie
Murphy has a Mr. T (?) doll and makes him say to Barbie or the like, Hey
woman, let me kiss you! The punchline this time was something like, 90%
of the time I get slapped. But, whoa, the other 10%... If you're sending
out 100,000 spams and one hundredth of a percent responds... Well, you've
got 10 suckers.

And, well, who doesn't want a great head of hair #and# a doctorate degree
for $40?

(And, fwiw, it's awfully easy to write programs that send spam mail. Find
an open relay and knock yourself out. I think I have enough spam addresses
simply from other listed recepients of the spam I get to make some real
money!)

web design ??? for off list?

2005-08-09 Thread Kristina
I thought there might be a few web designers on this list who might be able
to point me in the right direction.

My dd, 19 soon to be 20 has been working at a local scrapbook shop who has
an internet store. They turned her loose to run this e-store and with the
team of designers she has been managing the store and site for about 10
months, while she did a distance learning course in para-legal. She
graduates next week and is seeking a good lawyer and firm to make better
money so she can take more classes, buy more guitars etc ...ah hem.

Any way she says she really liked the web design thing and wants to pursue
this. We live near Chicago on the Indiana side.

My question is: what should we look for in a web training program, one that
does not require a full college degree, just the core knowledge.

If any one can recommend a course, or school i would like to look at them
with her.

please contact me off list as this isn't really a powerbook issue, and I
apologize.

Kristina
