Re: firewall for iBook G4

2005-09-01 Thread JocBr8
Hi, I'm getting ready to buy an iBook G4 this week. What's a good firewall?
A friend of mine has some sort of a router box as a firewall instead of a
program.
All suggestions appreciated and/or webpages with info.

Thanks,
Jocelyn

The built-in firewall in OS X is perfectly good. A router using NAT
does do pretty good at blocking things as well.

Truth be told, out of the box OS X doesn't really need a firewall
because no ports are open: look in the Sharing pane; if nothing's
checked, nothing's open.

MicroTech SCSI to USB adapter SyQuest Drive. . .

2005-09-01 Thread Zoltan Batiz

Hello All,

Has anyone tried the MicroTech SCSI to USB adapter? I recently picked
one up on eBay and pulled out my old SyQuest drive along with three
carts, blew off the dust, plugged everything in and believe it or not,
it worked! I didn't need the CD-ROM that came with the adapter which
made since due to OS X Panther having all USB related installed. BUT.
. .there is a problem. For some reason, when I pop in a SyQuest cart,
I get THREE (3) icons represented on the desktop for the one cart!
Anyone know why this is happening? I checked Apple System Profiler,
and it sates only one under the SyQuest drive. But, looking in Disk
Utility, it reads three. Go figure. I've just been trashing the
ghosts and using one and it seems to be fine, but if anyone in here
uses or knows anyone who has made the attempt to use the SCSI to USB
adapter with a Syquest removable cart drive, let me know. Thanks!

Zoltan

Sony Pismo drives query

2005-09-01 Thread kaldav
Others have mentioned suitable replacement drives for the Pismo. What
about the Sony CRX820E?

The Matshita SR-8174-C drive and sled (you'll need both) is the
other major OEM drive that was used on the Pismo and will fit
perfectly.

The SR-8174-C 6X Mfgd 2000 (Pismo) and the SR-8173-C ?X Mfgd 1999
(Lombard) both seem to work well.
I've replaced both with up-to-date writeable and rewriteable drives,
with good success, except for cosmetics.
