Re: Wall Street, Wi-fi, and OS 9.1?
Is there any way to make the 3rd party rebranded cards work with the AirPort software? I've got both an IBM branded and a Cabletron branded WaveLAN card which appear to be identical to the 'real' Lucent WaveLAN cards. The OEM cards (called WaveLAN or ORiNOCO) will work with Apple's AirPort drivers in OS 9 and appear to the Mac as though they are genuine AirPort cards. Additionally, ANY of the 3rd party WaveLAN-chipset cards (except the AirPort card) will work with the ORiNOCO 7.2 drivers under OS 9. -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: PowerBook Wallstreet Broken Glass Sound @ Startup
Mikael, Bruce, Ken, Laurent, Thank you all for your responses! I'm looking around for a Processor Logic Board replacement as we speak since replacing the RAM seemed to have no effect on the quirkiness of the machine. Since this RAM is new and known-good, I'm going to assume at this point the processor card is hosed. For anyone who read my long post previously, the machine has seen better days! :) Thanks! Yes, bad memory and badly seated memory also. Or any kind of early Boot sequence error, like for instance ROM errors. I think there can be a number of reasons. I'm sure there is info somewhere on the signification of this sound, but I don't recall as it have been so long since I had such a problem. Re: Partition with 10.2?
Thank you for your reply. A few other questions if you don't mind - Printing is broken? Does this mean via a usb printer or trying to use the serial ports? (serial ports don't work in x, or so I've been told) And does the lower slot work at all? It seems a shame to have two slots and not have them both work. I use one with Firewire and one with USB while using it. -Chris On Jun 6, 2004, at 9:06 AM, Peter Chastain wrote: I use both FW and USB 2 cards with my XPostFacto'd Wallstreet 300 w/ 10.3.4. The only thing that doesn't work for me is sound going in, which probably can be solved with a new PCMCIA soundcard with a specific sound driver for that hardware, but I haven't really tried that. I run a PCMCIA airport card (Open source driver) trough the PCMCIA, so I have none of the mentioned XPF FAQ problems regarding this port. Same goes for sleep, which is working perfectly. So, while Panther may set you off another $60 or so second hand, IMO it is worth that. I'm seem to be leaving the WS II finally after 2 years, going to a PowerBook G4 instead.
