Re: Internet problems in 10.4.2

2006-02-20 Thread Jared Noska
Hi Everyone – I have fixed the problem. I recently placed a new
router on my network. Last night, I updated the firmware, and this
must have caused a problem. However, I downgraded to the original
firmware, and all is well now. Thanks for all of the suggestions and
help.

None of Apple's OS X internet-based applications (like Mail, Safari,
Software Update) work on the internet. Yet, the network repair utility
thing in 10.4 says everything is fine.

I've reinstalled 10.4 to no avail, yet works in OS 9. I tried Netscape in
OS X - same story as Safari. I wonder if Firefox would be any better?

Well, Safari was working. Now it only loads part of the page and then does
nothing. Internet Explorer in OS 9 is working (it's what I'm using as I
type this message.)

I will try Firefox and see what happens. But not even software update works.

Internet problems in 10.4.2

2006-02-20 Thread Jared Noska

Hi -
Since last night, I have had problems with my internet connection.
However, it works fine in Classic (9.2.2). I am running OS X 10.4.2.
The page in Safari starts to load, but then does nothing - just stops
loading. Network Diagnostics says that the internet connection is fine.
I believe that my internet connection is fine, as other computers in my
house work fine on it. I reinstalled OS 10.4 and it still is doing the
same thing. Can someone help me?

Jared

Re: Internet on Virtual PC

2005-12-29 Thread Jared Noska

I believe you are correct on this. Something weird with Windows.
I am running VPC 7 w/ Win XP Pro - SP 1.

My VPC is quite slow... running at only 295 MHz -- My
Computer>Ctrl>Properties
But getting out of it is not a problem. I also assigned 512 to my VPC
- leaving 256 to X.

I suspect something inaccurate.. especially since this happened to
both of us.

Thanks for your insights!
On Dec 29, 2005, at 2:11 PM, Harry Corsover wrote:

What version of VPC are you running? I'm running 6.1.1 on an AlBook
15" 1.25 GHz, 1GB RAM, with (if I recall) 512 MB of RAM assigned to
VPC, running XP Pro SP2 with all the latest updates/patches. I find
it the slowest computing experience I have ever had. Things take
incredibly long, and sometimes so long that I'm not even sure the
mouse click registered.

I tried the site you mentioned (using their Dallas TX location) and
got 5772/973. I find this quite hard to believe, since it is almost
twice the rated speed I get from my Earthlink DSL service. I then
tried and got 1579/315 from LinkLine in
L.A., and 1796/333 from Speakeasy in Seattle. The latter two are
believable.

Switching back to Safari (which takes several minutes, since VPC
seems to take forever to let go) I ran tests at the same sites:

Speakeasy Dallas: 2122/307; Speakeasy Seattle: 2122/308; via
DSLReports.com: Speakeasy Seattle 2062/312; LinkLine, L.A.: 2191/272.

My take on this is that the Speakeasy test in Windows must be
inaccurate, since even if Windows/IE has an advantage, I don't see
how it's possible to get almost twice the nominal speed my DSL
service offers.

Re: Tiger on iBook G4?

2005-10-04 Thread Jared Noska
Well, do you think that it would matter if say the iBook it was from
had a newer CPU or if the Gestalt ID was different?

I guess I don't know how specific Apple gets when they make these disks.
I liked the days when system disks were almost like universal disks.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Tiger on iBook G4?

2005-10-04 Thread Jared Noska

Hello!

I have an iBook G4 that has OS 10.3.9. It came with OS 10.3.3 on DVD. I
bought a set disks of from an iBook G4 that have 10.4.2. I would
imagine that these two would work hand in hand, as I have an iBook G4
and the disks are from an iBook G4.

I would like to know if there is any way that these 10.4.2 disks
wouldn't work.

The only reason I bought another restore disk for my iBook is because
my first one was lost and I could only find Tiger. Maybe this will be
more of a hassle. I dunno.

Just need some input on what you guys think!

Thanks.
Jared

10.4 on iBook G4 from eMac DVD?

2005-06-23 Thread Jared Noska
Hi! I'm new to the list, so greetings! I have a
problem that is probably easily fixed and all I need
is a little help.

So here's the story:
I obtained an eMac DVD which contains the install for
10.4. I would like to get this on my ibook g4, but I
popped the disc in my drive and it told me that this
software won't work with my computer. All I need now
is to change the gestalt ID so that my computer will
be recognized as an eMac through the install and then
change it later back to my configuration? Is this at
all possible? I've done this before only it was 8.6...

Hope someone can help me otherwise I may have to get
the iBook G4 restores

Thanks,
Jared

Are you serious? Not that I want to pick up on you, but I find it rather
ironic that you advertise yourself as doing repairs and upgrades to
PowerBooks, yet you Wallstreet doesn't start up and you ask for help!
That being said, have you tried the 3 fingers salute (Command + Control +
Power)? Have you tried to reset the PMU?

iBook Keyboard Problem

2005-01-05 Thread Jared Noska
Hello,

I have a problem with my iBook's Keyboard. I've tried to take the keyboard off,
but I can't seem to get it off. I referred to the manual. The manual said that
you need to twist the little lock by the num lock key. I did that and no dice
yet. I've got it once before, but nothing after that. Seems like the keyboard
is really tight in place and may be stuck... I'm not sure. I have an iBook G4
1 GHz if that makes a difference. Thanks- Jared.
