Hi,
 Anyone know what would cause all my bookmarks to delete off my Safari 
program on my iBook that I bought last summer?
 I had many, many book marks. Now, I only have one!!! I think I lost my 
life when I lost my bookmarks.

Anyone know what happened?

 Thanks for the tips on how to trash a tiff file that seems to be 
stuck. I was able to delete it with Secure Trash on the drop down menu.

Re: tiff file won't delete from trash

Hi, I'm trying to delete a corrupted tiff file off my iBook desktop and 
throw out in the trash can. When I empty the trash can, a message says 
that the tiff file is in use so it can't be deleted from the trash can. 
I tried restarting my iBook a couple of times. But the message is the 
same.

Anyone know a way to trash this corrupted tiff file? I'm running OS X.4

Re: iBook and high speed internet and cable splitter

Dear Listers,
 I recently hooked up my new iBook to high speed Internet cable via a 
new cable splitter. The TV and DVD player is also on the cable 
splitter. it worked find for 4 days. Then when I booted up, today, on 
my laptop, there was no response from the modem and I could not get 
online.


 I called tech support at the cable co. and determined that the cable 
modem worked fine, when it was the only thing hooked up to the cable 
outlet (the TV and VCR/DVD player not hooked up). Tech support told me 
that splitters wear out or burn out or something. He said I should pay 
$30 and order another cable outlet to be installed in the wall for the 
computer. Then I can use the old cable outlet for the TV and DVD player.


 His other suggestion was to get a good cable splitter from the main 
cable office and see if it lasts longer than the one I bought at 
Walmart.


 Has anyone had of such a problem? What kind of work-around worked for 
you? I'd rather not order another cable outlet, if possible. I'd like 
the TV, laptop, and DVD/VCR to all work off one cable outlet with a 
splitter.


Any suggestions?

Re: downloading Windows media player for OS X Tiger to listen to Internet radio program

Hi, I hit the download button on the Windows media player website. An 
icon with a program did not download. A document with code only 
downloaded.Do I need to turn off my firewall to receive the icon and 
program to unstuff an install?


 I'm new to OS X Tiger. In the Sharing Preference, I have Network Time 
checked; and, in the Advanced settings, I have marked Enable Stealth 
Mode and Enable FireWall Logging. I did not mark Block UDP Traffic. Not 
sure what that is.


 I'm looking a the the Firewall Log. Looks like there are many entries. 
Haven't had a chance to read the O'reilly book that goes with OS X 
Tiger yet.


 I'm wondering what UDP means and its significance. Any light someone 
can shed on all this would be helpful. There is a live radio program on 
the Internet I want to listen to but I need the windows media player, 
evidently.

 Thanks for the ideas. I'll try limiting the number of pages and if 
that doesn't work, then, I'll try copying the cells into a new 
document. The documents are off the Travel drive. I copied all my files 
off the old computer onto the travel drive. Then I copied them onto the 
iBook. The files might be corrupt or something.

Hi, I have a new G4 iBook. The printer I got was working fine until I 
was attempting to print some lists in Excel last night. They were 2 
page lists. The printer kept getting stuck on 'stop printing'. I hit 
'start printing' over and over again to no avail. I finally deleted the 
Excel documents. It will now print Word and Textedit documents. I'm 
using a new Epson stylus CX 4600  (it was cheap).
  Any thoughts about why there would be trouble printing Excel 
documents. The various Help menus shed no light on the issue.  I 
checked to make sure the preferences were set up right. I've been 
printing on it for a couple of weeks with this printer.


 Anyone else ever had this problem? Any suggestions besides buying a 
more expensive all-in-one unit for printing?

Hi,
 I tried out the CHill Hub I bought last week. When I plugged in my 
travel drive and my zip drive, the icons never appeared on the iBook 
screen. When I have a moment, I will go on their webpage and see if 
there are any instructions for MAC. If not, i'll just take it back and 
buy a regular usb hub.

Re: what's a good lap top cooler and question about Memorex travel drive

Hi, 
Just wondering what's a good laptop cooler.  
Anybody using the Targus Notebook Chillhub? (It's a cooler and a 4-Port Hub). 
 The salesman at Best Buy said it was okay to use on a G4 iBook.but the 
back of the package does not say that it is okay for Mac under the system 
requirements section. I'm wondering if it is really Mac compatible.

Also, I bought a Memorex  512 mg USB travel drive and it keeps turning my Mac 
files into PC files. The instructions that came with it says that there is no 
Mac drive needed.  Guess I'm just supposed to use with a PC formating and 
forego Mac formating? 

Any thoughts?

the guy did agree to meet me at an Apple reseller to have a diagnostic done 
on the Wallstreet he is selling.

. After I found out how much it would cost to replace the battery and pram 
battery, it just wasn't making much financial sense to buy it. After all was 
said and done, it would cost almost as much as an iBook (last season's model at 
$699). I was only wanting to spend around $300 anyway right now.

Thanks to all who took a whiff of your iBook.  Glad to know that is really is 
an urban myth.  The guy sounded so confident when he told me that. He said he 
doesn't re-sell used iBooks due to the smelly funk. Maybe his nose is extra 
sensitive to smells?

A Mac repair guy was telling me that iBooks develop a smell after a year due 
to the kind of plastic used. The heat makes the plastic stink.

Wallstreet, pram battery, and other battery question

Ok, I test drove the Wall street PowerBook that is for sale for $200 today. 
The date and time is not holding, so I assume it needs a Pram battery. 

The guy told me laptop don't have a PRAM battery. Is that true? If it does 
have a PRAM battery, I need a webpage for PRAM batteries with prices.

Also, it has a SCSI adapter since the SCSI port on the Wall street is 
nonstandard.  His adapter looks like a pin is missing. He said it came looking like 
that. He did not have a SCSI peripheral to demo the adapter.

When he did a demo on the internal zip drive, he just opened the ZIP Tools 
disc window and commented on the loud sound of the ZIP drive. It sounds like my 
old ZIP, but I'm remembering that some ZIPs were recalled due to  chatter 
problem and for ruining zip discs. 
I don't know if he had a recalled zip drive.

Then, when he unplugged the laptop from the wall, it died. He finally 
confessed that the battery was not holding a charge. 
So I need a website for  a battery and the price.

I went to the webpage that a nice list person sent me today. It says that 
this model usually goes for $500- $700. So, I'm a little nervous about the low 
price. I asked him to meet me at a Mac place to have it checked over next week. 
I have a gift certificate to that store from my User group. I told him I'd 
apply my $50 gift cert toward the inspection of the laptop.  Maybe that was too 
generous on my part.

He is giving me several licensed software programs that I need, but I need to 
iron out these other issues. He seemed a bit too attached to receiving the 
$200 right away.

Any help and info regarding these issues would me appreciated. Wow, this is 
like buying a used car.

Wallstreet fixed in the PDQ? What is the PDQ?

Then it should be a good deal. I don't know if it was fixed in the PDQ, but
my Wallstreet has major troubles going to sleep, and most of the crashes I
have are after it has gone to sleep and been woken up again. If you have to
save battery power it's probably better to just turn it off. Otherwise
disable the hard drive sleep settings. Having the screen go to sleep quickly
is probably the best method of saving power.

Thanks for the info. 
I want a laptop to do email, MS Word, and internet. This guy who used to be 
in my user group has the Wallstreet for sale. Sounds like he's taken good care 
of it. I'll be travelling for a while and need an inexpensive laptop with more 
memory and speed than my old Power Mac 5400 desk top model.

 My old PowerMac 5400 is on its way outthe monitor is getting ready to

Need clarification on Wallstreet PowerBook Series II. Thanks for car charger info

The guy wants $200 for the Wall street series II laptop. Is $200 too much for

$200 would be extremely steep - it better make
Dacquiris too and good ones for that price.  ;-)

Looking at a Wallstreet Series II for possible purchase

Hi, I'm new to the list.
Does anyone know if I'll be able to find a car charger for a Wallstreet ? 
Where would I find one, other than Ebay?
Does $200 sound like a reasonable price to pay?
I've been reading about specs, ect on lowendmacs.com

Any thoughts or experience with the Wallstreet are appreciated.
