Powerbook Wallstreet on D-Link WLAN router using Avaya PCMCIA/Cardbus card

2004-01-05 Thread Martin Schmidt-Lanz
Hi *

I spent the last days trying to get a Avaya (Orinoco) card working
with my D-Link DI-514 11MBit WLAN router - without success :-(
I tried several driver software (Orinoco, Avaya, IOXperts) and was
always able to see the base station (at least I got the network's
name and signal strength). but that was all: No ping to base station
or other (Win) Computers possible. If I use a ethernet connection to
the base station everything works fine. On top of that Win-PC/Laptop
using a D-Link 610 card works fine, but not my Mac.

Detail: Mac OS 9.2.2, Avaya Gold Card, D-Link 514, no firewall
activated, SSID set and tried w/ + w/o WEP encryption.

Does anybody know if theres some difficulties having Avaya (formerly
Lucent) mixed with D-Link Products? Is there any way to solve this
problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Martin

Wallstreet + PCMCIA/Cardbus: Software or Hardware failure

2003-10-09 Thread Martin Schmidt
Hi *

two days ago my Wallstreet II/PDQ (233MHz, 256MB/30GB) suddenly did
not recognise my USB-PCCard any more. When I now insert the Card,
then the Finder thinks for a moment and then nothing happens.
Therefore I even fail to eject it (except using a paper clip when
switched off).
In addition my Firewire card seems to be recognised, but does not function.

On top of this bt cards are recognised by my wife's PC notebook
(although I cannot test their functionality since I do not have any
driver software for PC).

Any idea? A repair handbook I found somewhere suggest to replace
PC cardholder or I/O logic board, but this is suggested for any
failure when nothing else solves the problem. Is it really this
severe?

Wallstreet PC-Cards

Also I am having trouble ejecting the card on the
   left side.

Ejection cage failure is common. Mostly happens when
someone pushes a card in too fast slightly misaligned.
My DVD decoder card has to go in the lower slot
(hardware requirement) but my lower slot cage is
locked up and doesn't eject. I just use the upper
slot for everything else, and for DVD card I pull it
out with my fingernails. Easier than fixing it. I'm
not sure mine is broken, just jammed, but I haven't
taken the time to pull it apart and see what may be
   hung up.

The day I received the Wallstreet when I was checking out the powerbook
I removed the card and reinserted it with out ejecting it. Than I read
the manual where it says I could damage the slot or the card by just
pulling it out. I do not know if I put it back in the same slot or not.
At the time I did not know there were two slots.

So what do I do now?

Hmm, I once put in a card too fast, so it didn't connect correctly
(and wasn't ejected any more). I took my Wallstreet apart (keybord),
but wasn't able to see anything.
Finally I remembered the manual ejection hole next to the slots. I
pushed using a small, long tool (paper clip) and heard the typical
ejecting sound. After this, the slot worked as fine as before.

Re: AppleScript launches very slowly under 9.2.2

2002-05-16 Thread Martin Schmidt

Moin Moin,

since there were no answers I think this old question is still worth
to be answeredŠ

I finally got around to updating from Mac OS 9.2.1 to 9.2.2 yesterday.
Mostly nice, some things seem perhaps a bit perkier, but one isn't --
AppleScript.

I use AppleScript in Claris Emailer to pull individual messages out of
the list digests (great script!) and another to archive digests to a
FileMaker Pro database. Once the scripts begin executing, they seem to be
as fast as ever, but there's a much longer delay between selecting the
script and seeing it work.

Anyone familiar with this problem and know if there's a way to reduce
that delay?

I came across this problem (and maybe the issue, that some scripts
crashed my system after upgrading to 9.2.2). To get rid of the delay
(and to avoid further crashes) I replaced the Apple Script
extension from 9.2.2 (version 1.7) by that one, which came with 9.2
(version 1.6). Note: This cannot be done using the Extension on/off
control field!
Additionally I replaced Standard Additions inside the Scripting
Additions folder the same way: No delay, no crash now!
