TiBook/iPod/Firewire device problem

2002-08-26 Thread RLMcKee

Having a problem with the TiBook using an iPod... it has ceased recognizing the iPod
altogether, nor does it recognize a port-powered Firewire drive. The local tech
service place said it was a software issue, as they were able to boot up the TiBook
from a Firewire disk (which was also port-powered)... and recommended wiping the HD
and completely reinstalling everything.

We have now done this (installing Jaguar, taking advantage of the opportunity to do
so) and the TiBook STILL doesn't see either Firewire device. As a matter of fact,
plugging in either device causes the OS to hang until one UNPLUGS it, both at launch
and already launched.

Any suggestions from the list? Thanks in advance

PS. This is the NINTH time I have sent this message. I mailed the others from the new
AOL for OSX and got back the dreaded Mailer Demon message that they were
undeliverable; seems I was sending a multipart/alternative content type (???)
though it was just mail per usual This one's being sent via AOL webmail
Comments?

Make sure you have both the Multiprocessing folder with the Apple CPU
Plugin in your Extensions folder. I removed that extension one time from my
graphite toilet seat, oops! I meant to say iBook and it would go to sleep
and never wake up without me restarting. It took me two weeks to figure it
out, I thought there was something wrong with the logic board but no, it was
just the extension. Replaced it and it was fine again. There was an Apple
Tech Library article but I cant remember the number.

Seth, you are a lifesaver. I have been searching for MONTHS trying to find
the reason I could not get my Pismo to sleep/wake properly. Your solution
worked first time out... THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU.

If you're not like me (ie, you don't have so many icons on your

I seem to recall that it's not good practice to keep a lot of icons on your

issue?

Thanks for the information! The unit price comes down if you order 3... so I

I hope Kodak has upgraded that service in the last year or so... I had

were sorely disappointed in the quality.

Gary, if you take a look at those benchmarks for exp. bay devices I sent
you the URL for, you'll also see that the Ratoc FW card, together with
the Red/Yellow VST drive, is a little slower than the int. HD on the PB,
which gives an indication of 1st-gen FW controllers (and the VST drive is
not a 911).

Cheers,

RD

Can we change the subject line on future posts? You're talking less expansion
bay devices than PCMCIA cards here... thanks.

I'm having problems getting my Mac PowerBook G-3 (Wallstreet) 300...
recognizing my QueFire CDRW external

The QueFire is the 12X10X32 version. The Card I'm using is NewerTech
FireWire2Go card. I'm running Mac OS 9.2.2 on the PowerBook.

Nothing wrong with my firewire extensions. Because the card works fine to
drive my firewire external hard drive. Same card, same dongle...

The System doesn't even recognize that the CD burner is there. Nothing
wrong with the CD burner either. When I plug it into my desktop Mac running
OS 9.1 it runs fine.

Got to be software related, but can't think what.

Ideas??

jf

Have you installed the software that came with the drive?
