I don't remember seeing many Lombards having this problem, but the

It is amazingly, I have had a Wallstreet II Series G3, 3 months after

Re: Partition Suggestions for Wallstreet

2002-10-07 Thread amariafl

[EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

I will be installing
a 40GB hard drive this coming week and installing OS X 10.5, for
now, and OS 9.2.1.

I understand that OS X has to be in the first 8GB, but does OS 9.2
need to be in the first 8GB. I plan to partition as follows: OS X the
first 5GB, 9.2 in the second 5GB and the balance of 30Gb for
Applications and Files.
I downloaded from apple
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=10623, but it does not
address OS 9.2 question.

The classic Mac OS doesn't care how big a partition it's installed on, as
long as it's big enough.

My recommendation: one 8 GB partition for OS 9 and X, the remaining space
for everything else.

Hope you're getting one of the fast 5400 rpm drives with a big cache.
Just put a 20 megger in my TiBook with 8 MB cache -- it really rocks
compared with the original 10 GB drive. The faster drive almost makes
some things (such as scrolling through Claris Emailer digests) too fast,
a complaint I've never had with any Mac

Dan thanks,
  I will be installing 5400 Travelstar 40GB

It is required on a WallStreet, the X installation must reside on the
1st 8 gigs of the drive.
So the 1st partition must 8gig or less or you won't even be able to
install OS X.

I'm also in the process of upgrading to 40GB. Would I install OS X
in the First 8GB partion, then 9.2 in the next 8GB and the

How space do you need for OS X within the first 8GB??? 4GB, 6GB or

That's interesting. What system had you on board?

Hmmm, I seem to remember being unable to install OS X on a WallStreet

Since you are talking about doing this installation on an older
machine, I think you will find that you are unable to boot from any
system folder that's not in the first 8GB partition. I think I tried
something like this on my older iMac and it wouldn't even let me
install the OS on a partition that wasn't in the first 8GB.

If I understand, I would install the OS X in the first 4GB partition
and 9.2.1 in the second 4GB partition. All within first 8GB. Then
my applications and files in the last 32GB. I downloaded the apple
address that P.F.Grenie suggested, which did not answer all my

Both batteries charge when connected to A/C. If you put the
Wallstreet to sleep while in A/C, both batteries will maintain the
sleep commmand. If you wake it up before you plug in the A/C it will
  freeze.

Any CardBus cards installed, like maybe a USB?

I have a USB and a Firewire card installed, but if I remember
correctly they were installed after the problem above.

I'm getting tired of saying this ;-) If a USB card is installed it will
freeze immediately on battery unless 'processor cycling' is disabled in
the energy saver control panel.

Completed task and I am now operating on battery. Problem solved
thank you very much. I'm new to the site, otherwise I would have
probably would have read the solution. I must have installed the USB
card at the same time when the system did not go to sleep.
Thanks again

Wallstreet freezes if no A/C

Any advice

Re: Wallstreet Processor

2002-09-21 Thread amariafl

Sonnet now makes a G3 G4 500mhz for Wallstreet.
Norm

Yes there was a G3 450MHz upgrade made for the WS. PowerLogix made one,
not sure who else.

One more question and then I'll shut up for a while...
Under the system profiler for my 300mhz wallstreet (which it does
  say on
the bottom of the machine) it says the machine is running a 450mhz,
  could
this be an upgrade that I haven't heard about in the machine since I
  just
bought it and did they even make a 450mhz G3 upgrade for a wallstreet?
  Thanks for all help
