Just to let you all know.
I downloaded the Battery Reset 2 programme and implemented it and "HEY PRESTO", the battery is now recognized by the PB and charging. Even as I have been here writing this listing one lead on the battery has lite up so here's hoping that the PRAM will charge now. Will let you know what happens.

The formerly dead battery now hold 2.5 hours of charge and the pram is fine.
I don't recall the exact apple page but the advice came from this list, from Laurence, I believe.
As to if it working on a Pismo , Battery Reset 2 read me lists it to be used on G3 P/Bks so download it and try it.

Does it work on a Pismo? Though I think my battery may be beyond redemption!
