Re: Airport Extreme (was To iBook or AlBook, that is the question

2005-01-19 Thread Aaron Willems
No issues with the Distance. But I'll tell you what happened on my Home
Network. I have Comcast cable. When I had it plugged into a Snow Base
Station, I only got about a 187 kps download speed. When I upgraded to
Airport Extreme, my download speeds jumped to 378 kps. I have a 17
PowerBook with an Extreme card inside. Hope that helps you.

Regards,

Aaron

What happens if one uses an AirPort Xtreme card in a PowerBook
but an 11Mb/s basestation (802.11b) as far as the distance and all ???

No issues with the Distance.
Will it be shorter like the Xtreme ? Or longer like 802.11b ?

Hmm, na..
You had
187 kbps with 11Mb/s AirPort and
378 kbps with 54Mb/s AirPort Xtreme ???
As both download speeds are much slower than the Airport
surely it can't be affected by the actual Wireless speed ???

That's kinda weird. A good 11Mb/s connection should be well enough for a
Cable or DSL connection, even a T1. The wireless speed shouldn't affect the
download speed. Maybe the physical location of the Xtreme base station or
the laptop was not the same than with regular AirPort?

Technically your right. It should make no difference. All I can tell you, is
that both base stations were in the same spot, and I was only 12 feet away
right from the base distance, direct sight, no wall interference. I can't
explain it, but I'm much happier now.
