After Cathy's query, I bought an unbranded card adaptor here in the uk for
£9.99 (GBP) and it works fine. Just plug in the CompactFlash card to the
adaptor and plug the adaptor into my PB 233 (OS 9.1). Very convenient, no
problems.

Re: Another PC Card Adapter Question

2001-07-10 Thread Jeff Lentz

Apologies to nikki for the delayed response. Compact
flash cards are far less expensive, more widely
available, have more 3rd party manufacturers, and have
more readers than Sony's proprietary memory sticks.
I've advised against buying Sony's cameras for this
reason in the past. PC Card adapters for compact
flash cards are $15 and easier to find. PC card
adapters for Sony's memory sticks I've only seen at
the Sony.com web site, and I don't know the price.
You may have more luck with a USB memory stick reader
(assuming you have a USB port), but I think you'll
still have to buy the Sony brand.

PS - to anyone researching digital cameras, the web
site www.dpreview.com has the best, most overkill,
flood you with too much info, reviews of anything on
the market. Check it out, even if you've already
bought, as they may teach you things about your camera
not in your manual.

Sandisk (Scandisk?) makes a PCMCIA card adapter for CompactFlash and
SmartMedia. I got one for ColmpactFlash and it cost about $16 at Best Buy or
maybe it was compUSA. .I think the one for the Sony is proprietary and I was
recently quoted about $80 in a camera store.

Doesn't Sony use a proprietary memory stick? As such I'm not sure there is a
PC card adapter available for it (unless it's through Sony).

However I don't know this to be a fact but it was the one reason I went with
a Toshiba as it uses the readily available SmartMedia. I picked up the PC
Card adapter for it a Target for just $10.
